Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is a standalone sequel to Glass Onion that came out in 2022. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and is the third entry in the franchise.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and had a limited theatrical release on November 26, 2025. This was followed by its Netflix release on December 12.

Here's the official synopsis as per Letterboxd:

"When young priest Jud Duplenticy is sent to assist charismatic firebrand Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, it’s clear that all is not well in the pews. After a sudden and seemingly impossible murder rocks the town, the lack of an obvious suspect prompts local police chief Geraldine Scott to join forces with renowned detective Benoit Blanc to unravel a mystery that defies all logic."

Let's explore its filming locations.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery filming locations explored

Steve Yedlin is the cinematographer of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. He had also shot the previous two installments. The shooting started on June 10, 2024, and concluded on August 17. Here are all the filming locations.

1) London, United Kingdom

The shooting of the film began in London, and it served as a primary location. The makers created the film's Hudson Valley in the United Kingdom. The exterior shots of the church and cemetery were created at the Beach Holy Innocents Church. This is located in Essex's Epping Forest, which is located just a couple of miles away from London.

As per Decider, the film's production designer, Rick Heinrichs, said that the team struggled to find an old church in the United Kingdom.

“It was devilishly hard to find a church [in England] that didn’t look at least several centuries too old for a U.S. church. In the research of American churches though, I did find a tradition of neo-Gothic/Victorian age, mid-19-century American churches that overlapped with a few of the candidate UK churches that we had identified.”

The team eventually zeroed in on Beach Holy Innocents Church. Heinrichs said,

"Besides checking the plausibility box, it had a storybook-like charm in its arboreal setting within an old graveyard that seemed to support Rian’s intent."

2) Cold Spring

Cold Spring, New York, was used as an additional filming location for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The makers took extensive exterior footage from this region, which was shown as Chimney Rock in the film. A sound stage was also created for the same.

Heinrich spoke about the same,

“We wanted to make the audience feel like they were inside that exterior church. That church’s real interior was too small for the job it needed to do. [The real church’s interior was] disappointingly bland.”

3) New York

Certain establishing shots in the film took place in New York State, where the story is actually set. The makers opted for locations like Putnam County village of Cold Spring, Fair Street, and around Northern Avenue, as well as the front of Cold Spring Pizza.
