After Avengers: Endgame (2019), the MCU has been desperately trying to get back on its feet. Before that, almost every Marvel film essentially led up to the moment of the Avengers team-up and a great fight that would test each of their superpowers. So, for many MCU fans, Infinity War (2018) and Endgame felt like the end of an era. They defined what MCU is for them, and the loss of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers left a gaping hole in their hearts.

After Endgame, new superheroes have been introduced through shows or movies. In other cases, some older characters got a brand redo, including Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson. However, there have been very few teams released since then. While those from the Guardians of the Galaxy are not there as the fun group, Thunderbolts*, released on May 1, 2025, has just emerged as the fresh team that brings in humor with heart.

Currently, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is on its way, and X-Men are also going to be part of the latest chapters of Marvel's tentpoles. There have also been some discussions of young Avengers being part of the MCU with Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), and Cassie Lang. So, with these teams being introduced in the upcoming projects, some Marvel fans are hoping for some classic superhero teams to show up in the MCU.

What superhero movies should be a part of the MCU? Speculations explored

New Agents of Atlas

On a Reddit thread on a similar topic, a user commented:

"Certified Asian here, I felt the New Agents of Atlas was Asian circlejerk like literally one of the scenes was “wow we all like rice and spam wowowow”. I feel like they can do more with Wave and Luna like they did with Lin Lie becoming Iron Fist. Throw Wave into a plot with Namor becoming her mentor and ally. Slowly radicalizing her against the surface while she tries to do what’s best for the world. Why not have Luna deal with the problems of the idol industry."

Much like the original comics Agents of Atlas, the new iteration of this team can bring an interesting flair to the MCU. Shang-Chi has already been introduced along with secret agent Jimmy Woo. So, the likes of Luna Snow, White Fox, Brawn, and Snow can be a welcome addition to the cinematic universe.

New Mutants

Since X-Men are being introduced in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, slated to release on May 1, 2026, it can be interesting to see other mutant heroes on board for some strategies and battles. One of the teams that might just work is the New Mutants, which once included Professor X and Magneto. However, the later editions brought about many changes, which occasionally put this name in a bad light. Still, when Thunderbolts* can have a redeeming arc, why can't this team?

Alpha Flight

While the Avengers have mainly been associated with the US government, Marvel also has had a Canadian team of superheroes. Alpha Flight came to light through the Canadian government, and the likes of Aurora, Guardian, and North Star may add a bit more spark to Marvel's cinematic universe with stories beyond the borders.

Midnight Sons

Midnight Sons once included the likes of Blade, Morbius, and Doctor Strange, while the later editions included Johnny Blaze and Vicki Montesi. Although darker and rather morbid, this might help with the fatigue that a part of the audience has been feeling about these superhero universes. Not sure how they will work with other teams, but they can be an interesting addition to the MCU nonetheless.
