Everything we know about Angelica Ross’ transformational journey
Angelica Ross was born on November 28, 1980, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. According to a Forbes report, she was raised in Racine and recognized her differences from an early age. Ross was assigned male at birth but exhibited feminine traits from a young age. In an interview with Self, she explained:
“By eighth grade, the kids in school pegged me as “too feminine” and were picking on me for it. They thought I was gay, and honestly at the time, so did I. So, I’d pray to God a lot.”

Ross added that she was sent to a pastor and later to a therapist who informed her mom that she was gay and that no amount of prayer could change that. She told the outlet that she came out as transgender to her mom when she was 17 years old, and her mom responded with rejection.
Angelica Ross opened up about how she decided to end her life, but later realized she wanted to live. She shared that after graduating high school, she moved to Rochester, New York, to start a new life. She waited tables at a restaurant and then enlisted in the Navy, hoping it could straighten her out and make her more manly. However, her decision proved in vain, and she ultimately left that job.
Ross shared her experiences of discrimination faced throughout her life for being transgender. According to Forbes, she began her transition at age 19 in 2000. Before enlisting in the Navy, she worked in the food department, as a lounge singer, a model, and an escort.
Eventually, she learned graphic design and coding, founding TransTech Social Enterprises, a web development training agency and graphic design firm that empowers the trans community by providing apprenticeships and jobs.
Ross also reconciled with her mother, who accepted her now transformed identity and acknowledged her past mistake of not supporting her child. Since this realization, her mother has attended all of her premieres and stood proudly by her side at every step of her life.
