Last week, Anthony Krayenhagen was taken into custody by Stanislaus County authorities after he reportedly threatened an elected Northern California public school official named Channce Condit.

Krayenhagen, 38, is a stand-up comedian, writer, and producer. Meanwhile, Condit is a District 5 representative for the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors.

According to the legal papers obtained by the Turlock Journal, Condit has claimed that Krayenhagen contacted his office on November 12. When he responded with a call the following day, the comedian reportedly went into “a long profanity-laced rant.” Later, he warned the public school official that he was “green lit,” which in law enforcement terms means there was an impending target on his life.

The incident triggered a criminal investigation and the arrest of Anthony Krayenhagen, who is now being detained at Stanislaus County jail with a $750,000 bail.

A GoFundMe with $15,000 goal has been launched to help Krayenhagen with legal expenses. It was reportedly set up by his friends and family.

Exploring the GoFundMe launched to support Anthony Krayenhagen

Earlier this week, a GoFundMe titled “Support the Anthony K Legal Defense Fund” was launched by an anonymous user. So far, it has raised $550 against a goal of $15,000. The description begins:

“We, the friends and family of Anthony Krayenhagen, are raising funds to support his legal defense in a case that we believe is based on false allegations. He is a working comedian with deep community ties, no violent history, and no involvement in gang activity. The charges brought against him do not reflect the person we know or the life he leads.”

It continues:

“This situation involves individuals of notable political influence, and the circumstances have escalated in a way that we feel appears disproportionate to the facts. Adding to this challenge, there has been extensive public conversation on social media and through news-style pages connected to the situation, often presented in an inflammatory or tabloid-like manner.”

However, the fundraiser clarified that the funds raised were not for his bail but would go directly toward Anthony’s attorney fees to ensure he has “access to a fair and capable defense.”

The GoFundMe organizers have urged his fans and followers to “read, share, or contribute” and help the comedian navigate the legal process properly and truthfully.

It concludes, “Rude, unkind speech does not constitute a criminal offense.”

The fundraiser link was shared on the comedian’s Instagram and Facebook with the message:

“Protecting Anthony K’s right to fair representation.”

Earlier, it was believed that Anthony Krayenhagen met Channce Condit at the Che’root Lounge in Modesto, California, during one of the comedian’s recent sets. They had a heated exchange in the venue, which was caught on CCTV footage.

However, the Turlock Journal clarified that the verbal altercation happened with 209 Times’ publisher Motecuzoma Sanchez. The duo later shared their respective versions on social media.

Meanwhile, Condit also clarified that he doesn’t know Krayenhagen and the latter seemingly contacted him out of the blue. He alleged that the comedian told him that he’ll “never have the streets” as the community was “riding with me.”

“You don’t want to find out what can happen, white boy, if you test me. You either leave me alone or you will find out! Just leave me alone, Channce! You don’t want it with me... It’s on sight with you whenever I see you next. I promise you… You better hope I don’t see you! You and your white… friends are green lit. All of you are green lit in these streets,” Anthony reportedly stated.

A day later, Anthony K purportedly called him up again and repeated that Condit was “green lit.” In the wake of the threat, the alleged victim filed a complaint with Sheriff Jeff Dirkse and the Special Investigations Unit began looking into the case.

Less than 24 hours later, an arrest warrant was obtained. Anthony was arrested during a traffic stop in the parking lot of a tyre shop in Hatch Road, Modesto, last Thursday, before being arraigned the following day.

A detective overseeing the case shared in a statement:

“Due to the contemporary culture of mass casualty attacks… and political figure assassinations in the U.S, actions like Krayenhagen are treated as a serious threat and responded to directly.”

The authorities also claimed that Anthony Krayenhagen agreed to surrender over the phone, but later failed to turn himself in and evaded arrest for over a week.

It remains unclear whether Krayenhagen has denied the charges against him. However, before his arrest, he wrote on social media that despite Condit’s alleged assurance to stop “watching my profiles,” the “cyberstalking” was continuing.

“Given his family’s present presence in the Chanda Levy controversy, I want it understood that I won’t be an easy case – just clarity,” Anthony K wrote back then.

As for the public school supervisor, he said that Anthony Krayenhagen’s behavior was “unhinged and unpredictable,” adding that he fears for his own life and the well-being of his family.

If convicted, the comedian may have to spend several months in jail and pay thousands of dollars in fines.
