Former Olympic wrestler Ben Askren’s wife, Amy Askren, has expressed her gratitude to the community for their overwhelming fundraising efforts amid her husband’s health crisis.
A report in USA Today stated that Askren was hospitalized with severe pneumonia and underwent a double lung transplant in late June 2025. He took to his Instagram on July 10, 2025, sharing his health update with his followers. In the video, he says that he remembers very little of what happened between May 28 and July 2, and said that he died four times.
In an Instagram video, the athlete said,
“No recollection, zero idea, no idea what happened," Askren said in the video. “We'll kind of go through it all. I just read through my wife's journal. It's like a movie. It's ridiculous. I only died four times, where the ticker stopped for about 20 seconds.”
His wife, Amy Askren, took to Facebook thanking the wrestling community. The post included screenshots of a fundraising event hosted by Kettle Moraine Wrestling Club and WI Wrestle on July 31, 2025, proceeds from which will go to Askren’s family.
According to her Facebook profile, Amy Askren is a realtor and real Estate Consultant at Mahler Sotheby's International Realty. She currently lives in Delafield, Wisconsin. She shares three kids with Ben – daughters Alex, Andi, and son Ozzi.

Amy Askren was born on March 10, 1986, in Overland Park, Kansas, United States, per Legit. Her birth name is Amy Elizabeth Sarver. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in finance.

They welcomed their second daughter in 2015 and became parents to their third baby, and their son in 2017.
Amy Askren's social media posts are filled with family moments she shared with her husband, kids, friends, parents, and relatives. However, her post on June 7, 2025, shook the world when she announced that Ben had to be rushed to the hospital with severe pneumonia. Her post read:
“You may have heard that my husband Ben is going through something. He developed severe pneumonia which came on very suddenly. He’s currently in the hospital and unable to respond to anything at this time. We welcome all prayers for healing and for peace. We are trying to keep life as normal as possible for our children currently and doing our best to support them thoughtfully so please refrain from discussing it with them for now.”
Since then, Amy Askren has shared updates on her husband’s health and recovery, thanking people who came forward to help their family in the hour of need.
