All we need to know about the rapper Big U

Big U is a controversial figure in the rapping industry. He is also known as rap’s “godfather” in some circles. He is a music manager and the CEO of Big U Enterprises.

According to a March 2025 CNN report, he was one of the 18 members of his alleged notorious gang.

The federal authorities accused the music manager of running a vast criminal enterprise. They said the alleged gang engaged in activities such as extortion, kidnapping, murder, robbery, and fraud. The investigators have reportedly dubbed his alleged criminal organization the “Big U Enterprise.”

Speaking about the music executive's alleged role in running a criminal enterprise, U.S. Attorney Joseph McNally told NBC News:

“He has maintained the image of an entertainment industry entrepreneur running a music label, of somebody who gives back to the community here in Los Angeles, funding a South L.A.-based charity, Developing Options, which purports to help at-risk youth escape gang life and escape the perils of gangs in high-crime areas."

He added:

“The facts alleged in the complaint paint a very different picture. It is one of a murderer, a thief, a liar and a cheat.”

The federal authorities further accused him of running a fraudulent anti-gang charity organization called Developing Options. They claimed that he used it as a front to insulate his gang members from law enforcement suspicion.

According to the complaint reported by NBC News, Big U also “fraudulently obtained funding from the City of Los Angeles’s Mayor’s Office through the Gang Reduction Youth Development Foundation.”

As reported by NBC News, the federal authorities further alleged in their complaint that Big U was in conflict with the famous Los Angeles rapper, Nipsey Hussle. He played an important role in launching the careers of artists like Hussle and Kurupt. Hussle was reportedly killed by a member of Big U’s alleged criminal gang called the Rollin’ 60s. He is also suspected and federally charged in connection with the 2021 killing of an aspiring rapper named Rayshawn Williams.

He is also well-known as an advocate for literacy, helping black people with their education. His life mantra goes as:

“Nothing comes to a sleeper but a dream.”

This means that success comes to only those who see big dreams and not to those who believe in living a laid-back life.
