Kansas City Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt and his wife Tavia Hunt are mourning the loss of his 9-year-old cousin, Janie Hunt, who died in the Texas flood over the weekend.

Clark's wife, Tavia Hunt, took to Instagram on Sunday, July 6, 2025 to share the news about Janie, who was swept away in the devastating floods while attending Camp Mystic near Wimberley. Her post read:

“Our hearts are broken by the devastation from the floods in Wimberley and the tragic loss of so many lives - including a precious little Hunt cousin, along with several friend's little girls.”

According to a report in Marca, Camp Mystic was an all-girls Christian summer camp by the Guadalupe River. It was flooded on July 4, 2025, in the early hours. Many users responded to Tavia Hunt’s post with heartfelt tributes to Janie.

Tavia Shackles married Clark Hunt, the Chiefs Chairman and CEO, in 1993. The Sun reported that she was a former beauty contestant from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and was crowned Miss Missouri Teen USA. She would subsequently win the title of Miss Kansas USA.

According to a report in the People magazine, Tavia Hunt was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a degree in political science.

While growing up she developed an interest in beauty pageants. Today, she is the director of the Kansas City Chiefs Women’s Organization.

During an interview with the local Kansas City outlet, KSHB, Hunt discussed how she met her husband, Clark Hunt, for the first time. She said:

“In 1991, I was a college intern in the PR department, and after the first kickoff luncheon at the end of the summer, we came back to kick off the season."

She added:

"At the end of that event, this nice guy came up named Clark and started talking to me, and we had a great conversation and had so much in common, we learned. He asked me if I’d like to have dinner sometime, and the rest is history.”

The couple decided to walk down the aisle on October 23, 1993, per a report in The Sun. Tavia Hunt was 22 at that time. After her marriage to Hunt she became a significant part of the Chiefs. During her interview she spoke about her in-laws and went on to describe her relationship with her mother-in-law, who she has known since she was 19.

She said:

"She’s treated me like a daughter from day one. She’s had so much impact in this organization, this city and, really, around the league. She and Lamar were the perfect match because they were beloved and just precious and treated people better than they wanted to be treated."

Tavia and Clark Hunt share three children together. They welcomed their first daughter, Gracie, on March 29, 1999. They became parents to their son, Knobel on July 15, 2002. They welcomed their third child, Ava, in 2005.

Gracie Hunt followed the footsteps of her mother and was crowned Miss Texas Teen International in 2016 and 2018. Three years later, she became Miss Kansas USA. Knobel is currently a student at Southern Methodist University. And Ava is in her senior high school, per People magazine.
