Cristina Biffle's mother is identified as Cathy Grossu, according to an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. Cathy spoke to the outlet to reveal her daughter's last message from the place, right before the fatal crash. Grossu revealed that her daughter, along with her husband, Greg Biffle, and their children, were headed to Florida for a birthday party.

However, Cathy received a message from Cristina that read:

"We're in trouble."

Cathy told PEOPLE:

"She texted me from the plane and she said, 'We're in trouble.' And that was it... So we're devastated. We're brokenhearted."

Seven people who were on the plane to Florida were killed. The victims were Cristina Biffle, her husband, Greg Biffle, their son Ryder, and Greg's daughter Emma. The other three were Dennis Dutton, his son Jack, and Craig Wadsworth.

Cathy added:

"To think that they would be killed on a birthday trip, that was just such a fun time for the family... And to see the horrific way that it ended, it's just, it is so hard to bear. I cannot believe they're gone."

Cathy Grossu revealed that her daughter, Cristina Biffle, had been at her house just a day before the fatal plane crash. Grossu was hung up on the fact that their deaths were so unexpected, and now she cannot remember the last words she said to her daughter.

In her words:

"I don't remember what the last words that I said to my daughter or to Greg or to my precious Ryder... I don't remember. I know we hugged, but I don't remember those last words and that's going to haunt me. But they were happy."

She was heartbroken for her two grandchildren, Ryder and Emma, who "had so much life" and were "doing so many good things." She continued to say:

"They embraced every aspect of their life and every moment... And it's such a loss. They touched so many people's lives. It is so hard to bear. I cannot believe they're gone."

Cathy also shared one of the last conversations she had with her daughter. It was about sending Santa letters that Cristina would send to families who are in need at her own expense.

Cristina Biffle's mother recalled:

"She said, 'Mom, can you go pick up the last 17 letters that are at Staples? I want to get them in the mail before I get on the plane tomorrow.' So I ran over and got 'em and took them to their house, and when they got home last night, she put them in envelopes and finished them all up to get them off to those last 17 families to bring joy to them, and that would be the last thing that she would've done."
