Evangeline Lilly has shared an update on her recent brain injury that she suffered in May 2025.

According to the reports, the 46-year-old actress fainted on a beach in Hawaii and fell face-first on a boulder, causing severe facial injuries along with a concussion. In her recent Instagram post, she revealed that the results showed that “almost every area in my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity.”

She noted a silver lining: the brain damage has forced her to slow down, leading to a restful holiday season in recent years. She emphasized that she is grateful to be alive and has been working with doctors to investigate causes and pursue recovery.

Lilly is currently in a relationship with Norman Kali who is a former production assistant. They met on the set of the hit television show Lost and have been in a long-term relationship since 2010. They are not married but share two children. She was previously married to Murray Hone and has also been linked with her Lost co-star Dominic Monaghan.

Understanding about Evangeline Lilly’s family and personal life

Evangeline Lilly was born on August 3, 1979 in Fort Saskatchewan in Alberta. Her real name is Nicole Evangeline Lilly. Her father worked as a produce manager at Safeway and her mother was a worker at a perfume and makeup counter. She also operated a day care from their home. She and her two sisters were raised in a Christian household in British Columbia.

Lilly graduated from W. J. Mouat Secondary School in Abbotsford in British Columbia. She traveled with her church on a humanitarian trip to the Philippines which sparked her interest in humanitarian work. After her trip, she enrolled into University of British Columbia where she studied the international relations program.

Evangeline Lilly announced a break from acting in 2011, with rumours speculating that she went on maternity leave. She said in an interview:

“I’m definitely planning on taking a break for a little while. I consider acting a day job – it’s not my dream; it’s not my be-all, end-all.”

When she was pregnant with her first child, Kahekili Kali she kept it under wraps and was extremely private about her pregnancy. She never made an official announcement. During her second pregnancy she debuted her bump at the Ant-Man premiere in June 2015.

Reports stated that Kahekili was born in 2011 and his younger sister was born in late 2015. She shares them with her current partner Norman Kali. He is best known for his work behind the scenes in the Hollywood film industry.

Lilly previously revealed in an interview with People magazine that she received “major cool points” from her kids for portraying The Wasp in Ant-Man. At the Los Angeles premiere of the film, she said:

“And I needed it so bad with my oldest son because he didn't believe a word I ever said. He didn't give me credit for anything ever. Until suddenly, he got into MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and he was like, ‘Oh, mom's cool.’ And of course, the Marvel Universe is the thing in middle school.”

Evangeline Lilly announced her retirement from acting in June 2024 stating that she was stepping away from acting to prioritize her family. She mentioned that she would devote her time in writing and humanitarian work. In her Instagram post, she shared a throwback video from 2006 where she stated:

“Ideally 10 years from now, I’d like to be a retired actress and have a family... I’d like to be writing and influencing people’s lives in humanitarian ways.”

Lilly has been on hiatus from acting since wrapping Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2023.
