All about Gretchen Felker-Martin
Gretchen Felker-Martin has drawn significant attention towards herself after she made a remark on Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
She is best known for her horror novels. Her debut novel, Manhunt, was named the No. 1 Best Book of 2022 by Vulture. The book is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a virus turns people with enough testosterone into cannibalistic beasts. The critics praised the book for its themes of survival, gender, and trauma.
Felker-Martin’s second novel, Cuckoo, was published in 2024, making its debut on the USA Today bestseller list.
According to her bio on Patreon, Gretchen Felker-Martin described herself as the author who writes “the most disgusting books in the English language.” She added that the themes of her novels include “sexual revulsion, about body horror, about how violence forms and fits into our lives.”
In addition to Manhunt, the DC Comics writer has written several novels. Her work includes novels, short stories, and columns such as No End Will Be Found, Skin Deep, Ego Homini Lupus, Dreadnought, Mirror Mirro II, In the Flesh, You Only Come to Girls, and The Skin of Other Men.
In an interview with Heat Death, Gretchen Felker-Martin said that Watchmen is the first comic that piqued her interest in the medium. She added:
“Then in college I got really into Swamp Thing. I had a roommate who had, I think every issue of every Swamp Thing comic or guest appearance ever published, and I read through that entire stack over the course of a couple of years. It really did make me question my own kind of knee-jerk dismissal of cape stuff.”
Gretchen Felker-Martin is the writer of the ongoing Red Hood comic book series published by DC Comics. She shared in the interview that the company allowed her to pitch, which was later accepted, and this is how she landed the project.
However, following her latest reaction to Charlie Kirk’s assassination, DC Comics has cancelled the writer’s Red Hood series after just one issue.
They shared a statement to the retailers, which read:
“DC Comics cancels existing orders for Red Hood #2 and Red Hood #3, and any orders for future issues of the series. DC Comics will credit retailers for all invoiced copies of Red Hood #1, inclusive of copies that may have already been sold.”
When PopVerse contacted them to know the reasons behind the cancellation, DC Comics said:
"At DC Comics, we place the highest value on our creators and community and affirm the right to peaceful, individual expression of personal viewpoints. Posts or public comments that can be viewed as promoting hostility or violence are inconsistent with DC’s standards of conduct."
The second issue of the Red Hood was scheduled to release on October 2, 2025, and the third on November 12, 2025.
