Former Detroit Pistons power forward and center Elden Campbell died on December 1. He was 57. His family shared a statement with Pistons.com on Wednesday, which read:

“Elden was a man of faith who trusted in his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Husband, father, brother, cousin and friend, he was a man to whom family meant everything -- generous, funny, disciplined and kind, but could shut you down if required. A man of God, he passed doing what he loved: fishing out on the ocean, enjoying his idea of an ideal day.”

The official cause of death was not provided. However, his sister Sandra told the New York Post that he suddenly collapsed after a fishing trip to Florida.

Elden Campbell is survived by his daughter, Jael Campbell. She is a cinematographer and writer who now works at MarkMedia LLC as a creative assistant and producer.

Campbell also leaves behind his wife, Rosemary, their three other children, Jay Lee, Ariel, and Aaron, and Elden’s siblings, Elwayne, Sandra, and Charles Jr.
