American pop icon Britney Spears’ first husband, Jason Alexander, has criticized her second husband and dancer, Kevin Federline, for portraying himself as an “innocent bystander” to the singer’s “struggles” in his memoir, You Thought You Knew.
Jason Alexander, 43, is Britney Spears’ childhood friend who was married to her for 55 hours in 2004. He is a former college football player and a supporter of Donald Trump, according to Wiki Fandom and SCMP.
On October 14, 2025, Alexander posted two pictures of Kevin Federline on Instagram, mocking his condition before and after Spears’ child support checks. Jason wrote a lengthy caption:
“Kevin, You Don’t Get to Rewrite the Story Without Owning Your Role. So, Kevin Federline has decided to write a book — and surprise, surprise, it leans heavily on painting Britney in a bad light. As someone who’s known Britney most of her life — not just as her first husband, but as a friend who’s seen what she’s gone through — I can’t stay silent.”
According to Alexander, Federline intentionally chose to share only “half the story” despite being in the “middle” of everything. He criticized Kevin for trying to “point fingers” when he watched it all happen right in front of him and seemingly did nothing to help Britney’s struggles with addiction.
“You were her husband. You were supposed to be her protector. Instead, you were partying right alongside her — the drugs, the alcohol, the chaos… You were there for all of it. You weren’t trying to pull her out — you were feeding off it,” Jason claimed.
He also mentioned that Kevin Federline did not walk away “empty-handed,” but instead with full custody, child support, and alimony, without ever accepting responsibility for his role in Spears’ life.
Exploring further about Britney Spears’ first husband, Jason Alexander
Jason Alexander was born on October 16, 1981, in McComb, Mississippi, to Dennis and Anita Alexander. His middle name is Allen. The former college football player married Britney Spears at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas on January 3, 2004. However, the marriage was annulled two days later.
They were childhood friends growing up in Kentwood, Louisiana. According to SCMP, she later stated in a legal filing that she “lacked understanding of her actions” at the time of her wedding to Alexander. Meanwhile, in 2021, Jason blamed Britney’s team for misleading her into signing the annulment, and when he tried to contact her a month later, he couldn’t. Speaking on the podcast, Toxic: The Britney Spears Story, he stated:
“They told me if I would sign the contracts – the annulment – they would let me and Britney continue our relationship, and if we felt the same way in six months, they would give us a proper marriage. So, I had no reason to believe otherwise. I thought that’s what the truth was.”
Jason continued,
“They were allowing Britney and me to still have phone communication. So, we were talking every day, and I still believed the story I was told, that they were going to let us continue to talk, and then we would have this marriage, right, in the future if we felt the same way.”
In her October 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me, the singer explained the circumstances surrounding her wedding to Alexander. She mentioned feeling “very bored” in her life at the time and being “very drunk” during the wedding, which she described as “innocent fun.”
Later, in June 2022, when Britney Spears walked down the aisle for the third time with her personal trainer Sam Aghari, Jason Alexander tried to crash her California wedding, got into a scuffle with security, and later faced four misdemeanors, including trespassing, vandalism, and two counts of battery. He was held on $20,000 bail and received a 64-day sentence, with time served.
Before that, in August 2020, he led the #FreeBritney rally to demand her release from conservatorship. At the time, he told Us Weekly that he was “silent” for over a decade and finally had to speak up for her. According to SCMP reports, Jason Alexander is a long-time Trump supporter and attended the January 6, 2021, riots at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Earlier, he had a couple of run-ins with the law, including being arrested in Napa County in 2016 on an outstanding warrant for grand theft auto and buying or selling stolen property, and at the Nashville airport in 2021 for trying to skip through security checkpoint.
His other legal troubles over the years include DUI, illegal use of drug paraphernalia, and possession or casual exchange of a controlled substance, according to The Times report. Britney Spears’ first husband was also arrested for violating a protection order. He was also court-ordered to stay away from his ex-wife under an emergency protective order after he tried to crash the Spears-Aghari wedding in 2022, which ended in 2024. That year, in January, Jason live-streamed himself moving around the homes of Britney’s family.
According to his Instagram @jason.allen.alexander, he is now married to a woman named Rebecca Alexander (@nashvillebabe__).

Now, in his latest Instagram post criticizing Kevin Federline, Alexander accused Britney Spears’ second husband of becoming a “millionaire off of her pain” but pretending to be a “mature” person who “held it all together” in his memoir.
“No. That’s not growth, that’s revision. If you’re going to write a book, at least have the guts to tell the truth about your part in it. The nights you partied. The times you turned your back. The ways you used the media and the court system to your advantage,” Jason wrote.
He continued,
“You played the game, Kevin. You just want to forget that now because it doesn’t fit the image you’re trying to sell. Britney has been through enough — and it’s always men trying to profit from her story while ignoring the damage they helped cause.”
According to Alexander, wanting to share Federline’s side of the story was fine until he acted like a “victim” or a “hero.” Britney Spears’ first husband and childhood friend advised her second husband to be “real” and “accountable” because those who truly cared for her, despite her fame, remember “how it went down” and aren’t interested in the “rewrite.”
Kevin Federline and Britney Spears were married from 2004 to 2007 and share two children, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19. His memoir, You Thought You Knew, is set to be released on October 21, 2025.
An excerpt from the book was published by the New York Times on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Britney Spears’ representative told Us Weekly recently that Kevin Federline’s book was his attempt to profit from her.
