American political analyst and former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki took a jab at Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance’s marriage during a recent episode of the podcast, I’ve Had It, released on October 21, 2025. Jen Psaki herself has been married to former political aide and consultant Gregory Mecher since 2010.

She shared in a now-viral clip:

"I think the little mentoring candidate JD Vance, um, wants to be President more than anything else. I always wonder what's going on in the mind of his wife, like, are you okay? Please blink four times. We’ll come over here and we'll save you. Um, and he’s willing to do anything to get there."

The description of the podcast episode also featured her comment on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other similar streaming platforms.

"Usha Vance, please blink twice if you need help," it reads.

The current White House director of communications, Steven Cheung, responded to Jen Psaki’s comment by calling her a “moron” and a “dumba**” in a post on X. According to Cheung, Psaki was transferring her “own personal issues onto others,” and had “no comprehension of the truth.”

The White House official added that the former White House Press Secretary during Joe Biden’s presidency was trying to “overcompensate” for her “lack of talent by saying untrue things.”

Exploring the personal lives of Jen Psaki and Gregory Mecher

According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, Jen Psaki met Greg Mecher at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in Philadelphia in 2006. President Barack Obama’s White House Chief of Staff and former Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced the couple to each other.

They soon began dating and exchanged wedding vows four years later in May 2010 at Woodlawn Farm in Maryland. The pair share two children: Genevieve and Matthew.

During a 2021 interview with The Cincinnati Enquirer, Psaki revealed that she was attracted to how comfortable Mecher was “in his own skin.” She also credited him for motivating her in her career, including her appointment as the 34th White House Press Secretary. Meanwhile, her husband shared how he ventured into politics.

"I came to find politics interesting. I didn't grow up in any sort of political family by any means. My experience in college really brought me that way," Mecher stated.

He also gave a shoutout to his wife and his role as the White House Press Secretary.

"I think she's brought professionalism, thoughtfulness and intelligence to the job that people have responded to quite well. And I hear about it every day from people how great they think she's doing, and how much it has brought calm to a lot of people and stability back to the government."

As for Gregory Mecher, he is a native of Delhi, Ohio, where he studied at the Elder High School, was part of its swim team, and wrote for the school newspaper ‘The Purple Quill.’ His mother’s name is Mary Ann Mecher, who is a former teacher. Gregory’s brother, Dan, is a musician and a member of the Daniel cover band that was popular in the 90s, alongside the rock group Turnbull ACs.

He graduated with a degree in communications and TV production from Northern Kentucky University in 1999, during which he served as the student body president for the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity during his senior year.

Mecher, 48, moved to Washington, D.C. in 1999 and began working as an intern for the Democratic U.S. Representative Ken Lucas. Subsequently, he went to Mississippi and became a scheduler for U.S. Representative Ronnie Shows.

Gregory Mecher was the chief of staff for Steve Driehaus, the former Democratic U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 1st congressional district between 2009 and 2011. Jen Psaki’s husband was also the chief of staff to Congressman Joe Kennedy III from 2013 to 2021, when the latter served as the Democratic U.S. Representative for Massachusetts’ 4th congressional district.

Mecher’s other gigs include serving as the acting chief of staff in the General Services Administration during the Obama presidency and as a fundraiser for John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign. He also ran political campaigns for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, as well as for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Gregory also served the Democratic National Committee under the Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe.

He is now a political consultant and the Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Strategic Communications Public Affairs team.

During her recent podcast swipe at JD Vance, Jen Psaki called him “ambitious” and “agile,” who was “scarier in certain ways” than President Donald Trump. However, according to the political analyst, the Vice President lacked “rizz” and is a “little odd” who would have a tough time taking the MAGA reins.

Jen Psaki added that JD Vance is "a chameleon who makes himself into whatever he thinks the audience wants to hear from him."

Vance hasn’t responded directly to Psaki’s comments. They are currently in Israel, with JD trying to negotiate the Gaza Peace Deal, according to conservative activist Jack Posobiec’s tweet, shared by Newsweek.
