Jim Ross announced on May 15, 2025, that he has been diagnosed with colon cancer. He took to Twitter to share the news with his followers, according to a report in Variety.

He wrote:

“Diagnosed this week with colon cancer. Surgery being scheduled in the next week or two. I appreciate your concern and support.”

Previously, in October 2021, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that he had been diagnosed with skin cancer. However, he was declared cancer-free after undergoing treatment that year. In February 2024, Jim Ross stated that he had undergone “cancer surgery” on his right hip.

His latest announcement has come as a shock to many of his colleagues and friends who are praying for his speedy recovery. He was born on January 3, 1952, in Fort Bragg, California and is currently 73 years old.

His late wife, Jan Ross, passed away after she met with a tragic accident. She was riding her Vespa scooter without a helmet when she was struck from behind by a car driven by a teenage driver, per a report in Fox Sports. She suffered multiple skull fractures and succumbed to her injuries on March 23, 2017. She was 55 years old at that time.

She worked as a flight attendant when he met Jim Ross for the very first time, per Sporting News. She played a significant role in his life in supporting him throughout his career.

According to a report in the Sporting News, Jim Ross, the legendary commentator of WWE and AWE, met his wife Jane Grillette on an airplane in 1990 through Ric Flair. They went on to tie the knot in 1993. She unfortunately passed away in 2017 after being in an accident while heading to the gym.

According to Jim Ross’s post on X on his wife’s death anniversary in 2021, the couple were together for more than 25 years.

After his wife’s death, Ross went on to date Miss Hyatt, who was a valet in the 1980s. In her interview with Café de Rene, she revealed:

“Honestly, me and Jim dated for a couple of years, about two years after his wife passed away, we dated about two years. So, yeah, I've rocked his world. He's rocked my world.”

He is a father to two children, daughters named Kasi & Amanda, and two grandchildren. Ross has often shared about his family life on his social media accounts. On December 25, 2022, he shared a post on his Instagram account, showing his two granddaughters, Arin and Ryan Ketcher.
