Jinkx Monsoon has criticized J.K. Rowling's transphobia in her latest interview with comedian and writer Ziwe, per Billboard.
During an episode of her YouTube series, You’d Be an Iconic Guest, Ziwe asked the two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner about whether the Harry Potter author would "make a good Roxy Hart in Chicago." Jinkx Monsoon is known for her appearances in Broadway musicals as Matron “Mama” Morton. She made her Broadway debut in 2023.
In her response, Monsoon started by pretending she was not aware of the author, saying, “Who is Jake? Who is he? Jake Hay Rowling?” When Ziwe pointed out that Rowling is a “she,” she said: “Oh, dear. That is not a feminine name in the slightest.”
Being a notable personality in drag, theatre, and LGBTQ+ activism, Monsoon’s personal life has drawn attention. She was married to singer and sound technician Michael Abbott from January 2021 to February 2024.
