Jordan Shipley, a former Texas Longhorn and NFL wide receiver has been hospitalized after receiving severe burns in a ranch accident near Burnet, Texas, on January 6.

According to a statement released by his family, Shipley was operating a machine on his ranch when it suddenly caught fire, leaving him severely burned. He was reportedly rushed to the hospital by one of the workers at the ranch and then was "care-flighted" to Austin. The statement read that he remains in “critical but stable condition.”

His family has asked everyone to keep him in their prayers. He comes from a football-oriented family. His immediate family includes his wife, Sunny Leigh Shipley (née Helms). She is a Nashville songwriter and musician and has reportedly collaborated with her husband on several music projects.

Jordan Shipley has a younger brother named Jaxon Shipley. He is a former Texas Longhorns wide receiver who played briefly for the Arizona Cardinals. He also has a cousin named Braden Shipley who plays baseball for the Kansas City Royals.

Jordan Shipley was born on December 1985 in Temple, Texas, to parents Bob and Sharon Shipley. Bob is a former high school football coach who later joined the Texas Longhorns staff as a football analyst.

According to a report in the Austin American-Statesman, Bob coordinated “the walk-on program” and acted as an assistant “in film work as well as the planning and execution of the annual high school coaching clinic and summer football camp.”

During his joining, Bob shared in a statement:

“I’m very excited about joining the Texas football program and appreciate coach Brown giving me this opportunity. I believe in him. He’s the kind of coach a dad dreams of his son being able to grow up and play for, and my sons have had an incredible experience at Texas. I think I bring a unique perspective to the staff.”

Jordan Shipley met his wife Sunny Shipley when they were only thirteen years old. At that time Jordan was an eighth-grade quarterback and Sunny was a ninth-grade cheerleader. In one of the interviews, Sunny described him as “just a skinny little kid." But while growing up, the two got along really well and began dating.

They dated through high school and eventually married on May 21, 2011. Sunny Shipley, who is a singer and a songwriter has collaborated with Jordan on several projects. They co-wrote the song, Don't Let Me Sink which also features Jordan Shipley’s soft voice. Proceeds from the song went to Holden Uganda, a non-profit building fresh water wells in Uganda.

Sunny discovered her passion for songwriting while attending South Plains College's bluegrass and country music program in Levelland, Texas. She attended Texas Tech and graduated from Belmont University, where she studied music business. She gained recognition through her songwriting in the country music scene, particularly in the Texas country.

Her breakthrough came with Oh, Tonight for the Josh Abbott band. The song became a major hit reaching No. 1 on Texas charts and entering the Top 50 on Billboard's Country Chart.

Jordan attended the University of Texas and became engrossed in football, emerging as a football star. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft and spent the majority of his professional career there.

Shipley and his wife are parents to two sons including Swayde Jordan Shipley (born in March 2020) and Shield Fisher Shipley (born in April 2021). They also run a family-inspired brand called Swayde and Shield Co., featuring ranch-themed clothing and accessories.
