According to a report in Athlon Sports, UFC CEO Dana White announced on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Baku, Azerbaijan, that Jon Jones, 37, had decided to retire from competition. For the unversed, Jones is regarded as one of the talented fighters in martial arts.

As Fox Sports states, Jones had been delaying a matchup between him and Aspinall and had faced pressure to vacate his title multiple times due to his inactivity.

After his announcement, Tom Aspinall took to his Instagram to post a picture of himself holding the title of the heavyweight champion. He wrote:

“For you fans. It’s time to get this Heavyweight division going. An active Undisputed Champion.”
