Detroit Local 4 news anchor Karen Drew has announced the death of her ex-husband, Paul Gorcyca. He passed away on September 15, 2025.

Born on December 25, 1963, Drew’s former partner is survived by his mother, Mary Jo Gorcyca. He was preceded in death by his father, S. Gerald Gorcyca. He shared two daughters, Madison and Morgan, with Karen Drew.

He attended St. Regis and then Brother Rice High School, where he played baseball and basketball. He graduated from the business school with a Materials and Logistics Management degree.

Drew shared the news of her late ex-husband in an emotional Instagram post. She wrote:

“Paul loved his girls with all his heart and soul. He helped others, guided coworkers, built friendships that turned into family, and gave me the best gifts of my life ... my daughters. His famous phrase "Do what is right" . As we figure out this next chapter we will be scattered, i will be missing a few newscasts, and we will hold on tight to each other.”

Karen Drew is a celebrated long-time Emmy-winning news anchor and investigative journalist. She works for Detroit's Local 4 News (WDIV-TV). She is the eldest among her siblings.

According to reports, she grew up in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago and attended Southern Illinois University. She graduated with a degree in Radio, TV, and Communications and started her career in Dickinson, North Dakota. She was honored by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Society of Professional Journalists.

Karen Drew recently gained attention when she announced the death of her husband, Paul Gorcyca. Sharing a black and white picture of herself with her daughters at Paul’s memorial service. She wrote in her Instagram post –

“We are in a fog ... last week we buried my children's father.”

Her ex-husband passed away on September 15, 2025.

Drew continued her post while adding that she will be missing a few broadcasts to mourn her former partner and to support her children at this difficult time. However, Paul’s cause of death has not been confirmed in the reports.

He was an auto businessman and worked for Ford Motor Company. He later joined the Piston Group as the Director of New Business Development. Paul and Karen Drew married in 2008. The anchor filed for divorce in 2023 after being married for 15 years, according to a report in Distractify.

His obituary stated:

“Paul loved family, most importantly his girls and sharing his traditions and passions with them. If you knew Paul it was “Go Green, Go White” all day everyday.”

The obituary added that he was passionate about sports and played basketball, baseball, football, hockey, and skiing. But he was devoted more to golf. His funeral mass service was held on September 24, 2025, at 11 AM, at St. Regis Catholic Church.

Paul is survived by his siblings Debbie Crawford, David Gorcyca, and Lynn Trout. He was the beloved “Uncle Goose” to Jessica Orr, Christopher Babcock, Shane Gorcyca (fiancée Michelle), Allie Gorcyca, Peter Trout, Patrick Trout, Ryan Gorcyca, and great-uncle to Oliver, Henry, and George Orr, as per his obituary.
