Kyle Larson has won the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series championship, which was held on November 2, 2025, at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona. This was the second time he had won the title, following his previous victory in 2021.

Immediately after his win, he embraced his wife and team owner Rick Hendricks. While speaking with NBC, Larson said:

“Honestly, I really can't believe it. Like we didn't lead a lap today and somehow still won the championship. Really I'm just speechless, I can't believe it.”

His victory has drawn attention to his family life. He is a Japanese-American. His parents are Mike Larson and Janet Miyata Larson. Larson’s father has been instrumental in his racing career. He bought and built Mike’s race car from scratch.

He and Kyle entered the racing world by chance in 1999 after seeing their neighbors race go-karts. His mother is a teacher who has always supported her son throughout his career.

More details about Kyle Larson’s family

Kyle Larson’s parents have always encouraged him in his career. When Larson was four years old, his father built him a go-kart for fun.

While speaking with Fatherly, he shared about the lessons he has learned from his father. He said that he taught him to control his emotions if he had a bad race or a bad night. Larson added:

“When I was young and racing go-karts, if I got upset or mad, rather than getting out of your cart and throwing the helmet or steering wheel, he told me to sit in the car and collect my thoughts. I still try and take a deep breath and relax when things are going wrong.”

Both his father and mother have taken him to races since he was a kid. His every step and lap of his life has been recorded by his mother. This tradition, instilled by her mother, continues to date, as she is often spotted attending the Cup Series.

Reportedly, Kyle Larson’s grandparents and his mother’s parents were forcibly incarcerated in internment camps during World War II due to their Japanese descent.

Kyle Larson is married to Katelyn Sweet. She met him through her brother, Brad, who is a professional driver and the champion of the World of Outlaws. She is also an athlete.

She was an equestrian for six years, actively participating in horseback riding. In 2019, she completed her first half-marathon after being trained for several months.

Katelyn is loved by Kyle Larson’s fans in the NASCAR circles. She became a fan-favorite after her iconic moment when she celebrated one of her husband’s victories by pouring beer over herself in Victory Lane.

The Sports Rush reported that Katelyn gained fame after the release of USA Network’s reality TV series titled Race for the Championship in 2022. The show gave the viewers a chance into the behind-the-scenes lives of the drivers.

They got engaged in December 2017. Larson shared the news on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He wrote:

“I know I know....It’s about time!! Can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together!! Off to New Zealand we go! Love you @Katelyn_Sweet.”

They walked down the aisle in September 2018 and are parents to three children. Their first child is named Owen Miyata Larson. He was born in 2014. Their daughter, Audrey Lane, was born four years later. They are also parents to their third child and son Cooper Donald, who was born in December 2022.
