American R&B icon Michael Eugene Archer, better known by his stage name D’Angelo, died from pancreatic cancer in New York City on the morning of October 14, 2025. He was 51.
D’Angelo shared a son named Michael Archer Jr, 28, with his late girlfriend and soul singer Angie Stone, who died earlier this year in March. The son is a musician and is professionally known as Swayvo Twain.
In the wake of D’Angelo’s demise, Michael Jr issued a statement to PEOPLE.
“I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers during these very difficult times, as it has been a very rough and sad year for me. I ask that you please continue to keep me in your thoughts, as it will not be easy, but one thing that both my parents taught me was to be strong, and I intend to do just that,” Swayvo Twain stated.
Social media users and fans of D’Angelo and Angie Stone raised concerns about Michael Archer Jr. Here are some of the posts from X.
“My heart is so heavy for Swayvo Twain. Can’t imagine losing both parents in under a year,” a netizen wrote.
“Prayers to young Swayvo Twain. Can only imagine what he’s dealing with, losing both his parents in the same year,” another netizen wrote.
“My condolences to his son, Swayvo Twain. I can’t imagine the pain he’s going through right now. Losing both your parents in the same year has to be the worst feeling ever. RIP both the late greats Angie Stone and D’Angelo,” a fan wrote.

“I feel for Angie Stone and D’Angelo’s son. He just lost two parents in one year and needs all the love, care, and prayers his way. I’m praying for Swayvo,” a user wrote.
D'Angelo is also survived by his two other children besides Michael, including son Morocco and daughter Imani.

According to PEOPLE, Michael D’Angelo Archer II, also known as Michael Archer Jr., was born on February 28, 1997. He followed in the footsteps of his parents and is now a musician, singer, and rapper, using the stage name Swayvo Twain.
Recently, Michael Archer Jr. released a song titled "Sho’ll Is," which is available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, and Amazon Music, among others. In his 2023 remix, S.D.M., Twain recreated his father's 1995 hit song, "Sht, Damn, Motherfker," according to the IB Times.
He has also collaborated with Metro World Order (MWO) for their beanie and other merchandise collection, according to his Instagram. Swayvo Twain has over 62,600 followers on Instagram, where he shares updates about his music and concerts.
He appeared on the sixth episode of season 2 of the Paramount+ and MTV series, Family Legacy, in March, following his mother’s death. Sharing glimpses from the show on Instagram, Swayvo Twain wrote at the time:
“I used to try to separate myself from my parents cause it always felt like I was fated to be in their shadows forever. But thankfully, long before momma left, I learned to embrace them and their legacy full on. I’m blessed and happy to have had this moment with my momma man.”
According to Hollywood Life, Michael Archer Jr. previously lived with his mother, Angie Stone, and sister, Diamond, in Atlanta. Stone passed away in a fatal car crash in Alabama on March 1, 2025, aged 63. In its aftermath, Twain paid her a tribute via Instagram.
"Hey mama, I ain’t want nothing, just wanted to say I love you. I know you up there enjoying your god body. I hope you got to see grandma and granddaddy… I want you to know how proud I am of the person you are. I want you to know how much you inspired me every single day — you never failed me, ever, ever," Swayvo wrote
He continued, "You never were a burden to me, EVER. If I had to do it all again, I wouldn’t change nothing. I'm so grateful for the lessons that I learned from you. I hope to one day be as good to my kids as you were to me. I just wanted to let you know that I got it from here. Imma be okay, and imma LONG LIVE YOU 4Ever. Love you, mama."
D’Angelo was reportedly in hospice in New York City for over two weeks and hospitalized for months, according to PEOPLE.
