Mike Greenwell was married to Tracy Greer at the time of his death. The American baseball player died at the age of 62 in a Boston hospital from medullary thyroid cancer.
In a reported statement made by Tracy on social media, she wrote:
"With a heavy heart, I lost my best friend today. It was Mike's time to be an angel. At 10:30 a.m. in Boston's General Hospital. We are forever grateful for the life he has given us."
The couple tied the knot in 1984 and were together for over forty years. They also shared two sons. Greenwell was also uncle to Joey Terdoslavich, an American baseball first baseman.
Who are Mike Greenwell's sons?
Mike Greenwell was the father of Bo Greenwell and Garrett Greenwell. Remembering his father, Bo wrote on Facebook:
"After a long year a fighting cancer my dad has passed away. It has been a long year for him through alot of pain and suffering. Now he can finally rest in peace. Thank you to everyone who has been keeping him in your thoughts and prayers. Hero’s get remembered, but Legends never died. To the legend Mike Greenwell ❤️"
Bo Greenwell is a former professional baseball outfielder. In a statement reported by Cleveland in 2010, Bo, mentioning his father, said:
"From what I know and what people tell me, I'm the spitting image of my father and I take great pride in that. He played the game hard, played the game the right way and was fearless when he was on the field. And when he walked up to the plate he owned it. And from what I hear I do the same thing, I play the same way."
Mike Greenwell's family has kept a low profile on social media, with very few details publicly known about their personal lives. From photos shared online on Tracy's Facebook page, Bo appears to be a father, while Garrett is reported to have two children with his spouse.
Remembering him, right-handed pitcher Bob Stanley said:
"He was a great teammate and an even better person. He had big shoes to fill in left field, and he did a damn good job. He played hard and never forgot where he came from -- Fort Myers. Just a great guy. We'll all miss him."
