One of the most loved players of the New York Jets and a former member of the National Football League, Nick Mangold died on October 25, 2025, after battling with chronic kidney disease. He was only 41.
Nick left behind his wife and four children. Nick and his wife, Jennifer Richmond, were married in April 2007, and according to reports, they were high school sweethearts. The couple were together up until Mangold’s passing. Their children include Matthew, Eloise, Thomas, and Charlotte.
In his last announcement on his official Instagram, Nick Mangold described his family as his rock. Jennifer and his four kids were with him throughout the course of his sickness. Nick wrote about how lucky he was to have his high school sweetheart by his side.
“Most of all, I'm thankful for my family, who have been my rock every step of the way.”
The father of four also wrote about how the situation reminded him of how lucky he was to have such an amazing family, friends, and community behind him.
More details on Nick Mangold’s illness
A few days before his passing, Nick took to his official Instagram on October 14 to talk about his health issues. He opened up about his battle with chronic kidney disease for years.
In his revelation about his chronic illness he spoke about how difficult it was to share his problems with the world. Nick Mangold suffered from a genetic defect which caused several health complications, including chronic kidney disease.
Mangold was undergoing treatment, but needed a transplant.
“In 2006, I was diagnosed with a genetic defect that has led to chronic kidney disease. After a rough summer, I'm undergoing dialysis as we look for a kidney transplant.”
Mangold added:
“I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would have had more time.”
Nick needed a kidney transplant and sought help from his fans and netizens in general.
“Unfortunately, I do not have any family able to donate at this time, so this is why I'm reaching out to you, our NY Jets and Ohio State communities. I am in need of a kidney donor with type O blood.”
Nick Continued:
“If you are willing to find out if you could be a match and donate a kidney to me please go to this site https://columbiasurgery.org/kidney-transplant and click the link to indicate I WANT TO DONATE MY KIDNEY. Use my full name, Nicholas Mangold, and my birthday, 1/13/1984. 1 am deeply grateful to anyone that would consider donating.”
The athlete concluded the message with some positivity.
“While this has been a tough stretch, I'm staying positive and focused on the path ahead. I'm looking forward to better days and getting back to full strength soon.”
He added:
“I'll see you all at MetLife Stadium & The Shoe very soon.”
Unfortunately, Nick passed away from health complications.
