Professional Shark diver and marine conservationist, Ocean Ramsey, recently shared an Instagram reel raising awareness for shark and marine conservation. Her post comes after the release of the new Netflix documentary, Shark Whisperer, which premiered on June 30.

In her post, Ocean Ramsey speaks about how redirecting the sharks works if caught up in emergency situations. However, she warns not to attempt it voluntarily. She shared how her experience with the horses helped her to develop the skill she uses to face sharks underwater.

The documentary also features her husband, Juan Oliphant who is an underwater photographer and videographer. According to Outside, Ramsay’s social media following on TikTok and Instagram surpasses 2 million followers. She is a free diver and a shark activist born in 1987 in Oahu, Hawaii. She spent many years advocating for the protection of sharks, portraying them as misunderstood creatures rather than monsters.

What do we know about Ocean Ramsey and Juan Oliphant?

Ocean Ramsey and Juan Oliphant tied the knot in 2019 and have since been together. Oliphant is not only her husband but her primary dive partner, cameraman, and co-advocate. Together, they conduct research, lead educational tours and produce content to raise awareness.

According to Ocean Ramsey’s profile on Mabumbe, she is from Hawaii and was born on September 1, 1987. She is currently 37 years old. Her net worth is approximately $3-$5 million, which she earns from social media, diving tours and sponsorship.

The report stated that she pursued behavioral sciences and psychology, and earned a bachelor’s degree at San Diego State University. She did her master’s in ethology (animal behavior). Additionally, she also earned an associate’s degree and completed biological studies at the University of Hawaii.

She co-founded One Ocean Diving with her husband. She became a viral phenomenon in 2013 when she swam alongside a great white shark, later identified as Deep Blue. There are several other companies which they operate together, these include Water Inspired Conservation Group, and Save the Sea Turtles International.

According to her bio, she is also an author, a scientist, a designer, a scuba instructor, a speaker, a safety officer, a surfer, a model and more. She has an impressive ability to hold her breath underwater for 6 minutes and 45 seconds. Her achievements include rescuing more than 1000 sharks from fishing gear and entanglement, saving more than 300 sea turtles and protecting countless corals.

Juan Oliphant grew up on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. He learned Scuba diving and freediving at the age of seven. He studied fine arts and photography at Brigham Young University in Hawaii. He traveled the world with SeaShepard to help combat illegal fishing and whaling in 1999. After learning about the sharks he has since devoted his life to the preservation of the apex predators and marine wildlife, as per his official website.
