Brandon Blackstock, who has died after his cancer battle at the age of 48, was the stepson of famous country singer Reba McEntire and her ex-husband, Narvel Blackstock. His family confirmed his passing on August 7, 2025.

His death has brought attention to his personal life, which also includes his parents and siblings. Blackstock, who was a talent manager at his company, Starstruck, was born to Narvel Blackstock and Elisa Gilbert. Later, Narvel married Reba McEntire in 1989, per Today. After her marriage, she became a stepmother to her husband’s three children — Chassidy, Shawna, and Brandon.

Narvel, who was also a talent manager, met McEntire in the 1980s when he was working as her tour manager. They co-founded Starstruck Entertainment. However, they separated in 2015 after 26 years of marriage. They shared a son named Shelby, who was born in 1990. According to NBC, he is a principal and co-founder at B&R Developments, a construction company in Texas.

Who is Reba McEntire’s son Shelby Blackstock?

Shelby Blackstock is the only biological son of country music singer Reba McEntire and her ex-husband Narvel Blackstock. His real name is Shelby Steven McEntire Blackstock, as per People magazine.

He was born on February 23, 1990, after McEntire and Blackstock tied the knot on June 3, 1989. Brandon Blackstock and his sisters - Shawna Rene Blackstock and Chassidy Celeste Blackstock are his half-siblings, who were born to Navel’s first wife, Elisa Gayle Ritter.

Shelby grew up in Nashville until the age of nine, when he moved to New York City with his mother, Reba McEntire. At that time, she was making her Broadway debut in the 1999 revival of Annie Get Your Gun. The family moved to Los Angeles when he was 10. During that time, RebaMcEntire landed a role in her sitcom, Reba. They later moved to Cornelius, North Carolina, on Lake Norman.

McEntire’s son is also a NASCAR driver. According to his LinkedIn bio, he

“Discovered the passion for racing while I attended college at The University of Arizona in 2010. Deciding to put aside the conventional college dream, I dedicated 100% of my time to a career in racing.”

He was backed by McEntire, who had no idea about the sport but still chose to support her son. However, she told him to complete the year before he could try racing. He told The Daytona News Journal:

“It was kind of definitely a carrot dangling in front of me," Blackstock said. "It worked out though. I did not like the University of Arizona too much. The school was good. College was fun. But Tucson I'm not a big fan of.”

He made his first professional debut by competing in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, driving the Ford Mustang. He later secured the pole position at the Daytona International Speedway, his LinkedIn profile stated. From 2012 to 2017, he competed in the Mazda Road to Indy series. He is currently 35 years old and is married to Marissa Blackstock, as per his Instagram account.

Reba McEntire is proud of her son’s accomplishments. A report on NBC mentioned that she nearly passed out the first time she saw him in action. Despite her immense fame, she always taught her son to be down-to-earth with some thick skin.
