Stellan Skarsgård won Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his performance in Sentimental Value at the 2026 Golden Globes on January 11. He portrayed the role of Gustav Borg, a celebrated film director and Nora and Agnes’ father.

Skarsgård praised his wife Megan Everett-Skarsgård during the acceptance speech at the event. The 74-year-old Swedish actor began by joking he was “too old” for the win and unprepared. He then skipped the lengthy credits and thanked his wife.

He said:

"I've got to thank my wife. She's been amazing — a sort of brutal support, a tough lover and very educational. And also, my children have been very educational. I'm playing a father who is a bad father. My children have really taught me what a bad father is.”

Megan is Skarsgård’s second wife. He has been married twice in his life. His first wife was My Skarsgård with whom he shares children Alexander, Gustaf, Sam, Bill, Eija, and Valter. He has two children from his second wife - Ossian and Kolbjörn.

Stellan Skarsgård’s recent win at the 2026 Golden Globes awards and his praise for his wife, Megan Everett-Skarsgård, have drawn attention towards his entertainment-inclined family.

He married Megan, a producer and screenwriter, in 2009 after his divorce from his first wife, My Skarsgård. They welcomed their first child, Ossian, shortly after tying the knot in 2009. Three years later, the couple became parents to their second son, Kolbjörn.

He met his first wife, My Skarsgård, in high school in Sweden as they grew up in the same neighborhood. After dating for a while, they married in 1975. Her full name is My Sonja Marie Agnes. While My pursued medical studies, Stellan Skarsgård pursued his acting career. She notably made an appearance in Jim & Piraterna Blom and several talk shows, including Skavalan, Gornorron and Efter Tio.

They were blessed with six children, a daughter and five sons. Born in August 1956, Stellan Skarsgård’s eldest son is Alexander, who is known for his roles in True Blood, The Legend of Tarzan and Big Little Lies.

Born in 1980, Gustaf is his second-oldest son. He is a Swedish actor and director. He is best known for roles in Vikings, Game of Thrones, and appearances in Westworld, Cursed, and Oppenheimer.

Stellan’s third son, Sam pursued medicine unlike his other siblings. He worked as a doctor after brief roles in The Invisible and To Kill a Child. His fourth son, Bill is the famous actor known for portraying Pennywise in It and It Chapter Two. He is also known for roles in Hemlock Grove, Eternals, and Nosferatu. He was born in August 1990.

Ella is the only daughter of Stellan Skarsgård and My Skarsgård. Born in February 1992, Ella pursued a career in modelling and has also worked as a manager at a nightclub. She is a casting director known for The Dance Club, Stenbeck and Deliver Me.

The youngest of his siblings, Valter, debuted as a child actor in 2003 with the short film To Kill a Child. The film was directed by his brother Alexander. He also appeared in Details alongside brother Gustaf.

Following family tradition, Stellan Skarsgård’s sons Ossian and Kolbjörn have made their acting debuts but maintain a low profile.

In an interview with Daily Beast, Skarsgård who is known for his roles in Dune, Pirates of the Caribbean and Mamma Mia! praised his wives for raising his eight kids. He said:

“I’ve had two beautiful wives and very smart wives and that’s helped a lot. I’m not going to take much credit for anything.”

He further added that he is proud of his children as well for their politeness with their colleagues on the set and added:

“But what I’m proud of is, when I hear from other people in the business about Gustaf or Sam or Bill or Valter or Alexander, I hear that somebody worked with them and they were really nice on the set and totally cool with everybody, and how no matter what menial job anyone had on the set they were nice to them, then I’m proud.”

Stellan Skarsgård avoids giving parenting advice to his children. In an interview with People magazine, he called it “dangerous,” and said that he lets his children make their own choices without interference.
