“Now I’m a huge lesbian. Total lesbian, great love affairs, many girlfriends, big fun. Best fun ever!”
She was married to Lincoln Apeland. They were married for six years from 1989 until their separation around 1995. Exploring the relationship between Susan Powter and Lincoln Apeland
Born in December 1957 in Sydney, Australia, Susan Powter is a motivational speaker, nutritionist, personal trainer, and bestselling author. Powter is best known for her Stop the Insanity! infomercial, which made her a major fitness icon in the 1990s.
Susan Powter has been married twice. She was first married to Nic Villarreal from 1982 to 1988. The fitness icon left her husband after he had an affair. They had two sons together, Damien and Kiel.
After their divorce, she reportedly faced financial struggles, which ultimately led her to declare bankruptcy in 1995. In her filing at that time, she wrote:
“I can't pay my bills because of the excessive litigation. The Susan Powter Corp. made a hell of a lot of money last year, but it went to the company, not to me. I have no control over where all the money I make goes.”

After declaring her bankruptcy, Susan Powter moved to Seattle to raise her children as a single mother. She also adopted a son after coming out as a lesbian. She then married Lincoln Apeland, a musician, in 1989. They were together until their divorce in 1995.
Powter and Apeland were also embroiled in a legal battle over alimony payments following their divorce. Tampa Bay Times reported that Susan Powter filed a $1 million defamation lawsuit against Apeland for spreading false statements about her mental health on his webpage.
He wrote that Powter suffers from “manic depression, to schizophrenia, to just about any sort of incurable emotional problem.”
In her new documentary, Stop the Insanity: Finding Susan Powter, the 67-year-old has shared her journey from being a sprawling fitness icon to facing challenges and working as an Uber Eats driver. In her recent interview with Today, she said:
“I take full responsibility. I never checked. I never said, ‘Where’s the money?’ So it’s not that there was no money. ... There was a little bit of money, but not the amount of money that was generated. And I just walked away. I literally walked away. I did it very intentionally.”
Powter and Apeland welcomed a son, Gabriel Apeland. She maintains a strong relationship with her children and mentioned in her interviews that she sees them occasionally.
