Victoria Canal has spoken about her time prior to becoming a successful artist. She shared that she was groomed and se*ually abused by “a very powerful, decades-older man” at the age of 19.
The artist, who recently celebrated her 27th birthday, shared the post describing the alleged incident on her Instagram. In the caption of her post, shared on August 11, 2025, she wrote:
“This statement is a gift to myself.”
She avoided sharing the name of her alleged abuser to avoid:
“the risk of financial loss and emotional terror a lawsuit would bring.”
Victoria Canal is a Spanish-American songwriter and a multi-instrumentalist. She gained recognition for her soulful voice and unique songwriting skills. She was reportedly discovered by Michael Franti and Emily King’s former manager, Andrew Leib, through Instagram, who invited her to Nashville to collaborate with them. Canal was born with an underdeveloped right arm due to amniotic band syndrome.

Victoria Canal released her debut album, Slowly, It Dawns, in January 2025, according to the LA Times. Ever since its release, she has performed songs on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live and Live with Kelly & Mark. She also headlined a West Coast tour of the same name.
Canal was born in Germany to an American mother and a Spanish father, according to Music Week. She released her first LP in 2016, titled Into The Pull. She performed onstage with Coldplay at the Glastonbury Festival in 2024. The band introduced her to the British record label, Parlophone, and Chris Martin, who served as her mentor.
Praising Victoria Canal, he told The New Yorker in a 2023 interview that:
“she has the gift of song.”
Canal reflected when she was invited to join Coldplay during the Glastonbury Festival last year, and said:
“I couldn’t process it at the time,” said Canal. “I was just focused on getting it right for Chris. The stakes were high, he’d invested in me by asking me to do it, so I just thought that I would focus on what I needed to do and on making him happy.”
Canal won two Ivor Novello awards, including the Rising Star award in 2023, and Best Song Musically and Lyrically in 2024 for her song, “Black Swan”, along with her co-writers, Jonny Lattimer and Eg White.
Canal’s latest album, Slowly, It Dawns, has become a fan-favorite. The album has received critical acclaim from listeners for its empowering lyrics that have resonated with them.
