Adrian Grenier, the actor who played the role of Nate Cooper in the comedy-drama film The Devil Wears Prada, will not be returning to the screen for its sequel, as per reports by Entertainment Weekly. Recently, on Monday, June 30, 20th Century Studios announced on their Instagram that the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is in production.
As per People, other actors, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt, will be returning for the sequel. Adrian Grenier's absence from the film could be because his character completes his arc after he and Andy, played by Anne Hathaway, part ways, and he moves to Boston to pursue cooking.
Adrian Grenier is not in The Devil Wears Prada 2?
As per reports, the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is set to release in May 2026. The 2006 movie was an adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's book of the same name. Lauren worked as an assistant for Vogue under Anna Wintour, the editor-in-Chief of Vogue.
The film revolved around Andy Sachs, an aspiring journalist who gets a job at a fashion magazine, called the Runway magazine, and she works as an assistant to Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, the editor of the magazine.
Adrian Grenier, as Nate, plays the role of Andy's college boyfriend, and along the way, Nate and Andy's relationship becomes sour as Andy misses Nate's birthday because of her work commitments, and later in the film, they part ways, and Nate moves to Boston.
In a 2021 oral history reunion with the cast and crew of The Devil Wears Prada, Adrian Grenier shared how he thinks that his character was the actual villain of the film. He said:
''It hadn't occurred to me until I started to really think about it, and perhaps it was because I was as immature as Nate was at the time, and in many ways he's very selfish and self-involved, it was all about him, he wasn't extending himself to support Andy in her career.''
He continued:
''At the end of the day, it's just a birthday, right? It's not the end of the world. I might've been as immature as him at the time, so I personally couldn't see his shortcomings. But after time to reflect and much deliberation, I've come to realize the truth in that perspective.''
He also shed light on the film having a sequel. He said:
''[The studio] didn't ask for [a sequel]. We had a meeting where we said, 'What could we do if there was a sequel?' Maybe it was stupid; we felt like, No, this story has been told.… Lauren eventually wrote another book following up 15 years later. We came to the same conclusion, that just following the characters wouldn't be the same.''
Although the sequel brings back the original core cast without the old romantic subplot involving Nate, the storyline and other details of the film have not been revealed.
