Dacre Kayd Montgomery-Harvey, popularly known as Dacre Montgomery, has revealed why he decided to take a break from Hollywood after Stranger Things. Montgomery was talking to The Australian when he explained why he felt the need to step away from Hollywood for five years. He discussed the changes he has noticed in the acting industry.

The 30-year-old actor said:

"Traditional Hollywood stars existed because there was mystery... Social media has done away with that. That's a large part of why I dropped off the map for the last five years... I'm not trying to compete with anyone else, I'm living my truth and hopefully being able to pay the rent while I'm doing it."

Staying away from Hollywood for five years has allowed Dacre Montgomery to regain his privacy, which he lacked after Stranger Things gained immense popularity.

After a break of five years, Dacre Montgomery is coming back with a new film called Went Up The Hill. However, before discussing his upcoming film, Montgomery also talked about how he is looking forward to reclaiming his identity.

The Stranger Things alum said:

"I've given a piece of myself to every role I've played and that's largely why I've taken time off... Lately, there’s been a lot of personal reflection about what I want in my career. I'm trying to gain a bit more control over where and what I’m working on."

During an interview with ScreenRant, Dacre Montgomery expressed how he was excited to see the finale of Stranger Things, as well as where Matt and Ross Duffer will take it.

He said:

"I'm more excited than anything for it to be over for the Duffer Brothers, because I know they have so many other awesome stories that, years ago, they were telling me about... I'm like, ‘Guys, you haven't had the bandwidth to make this project.’ So, that's my most exciting thing."

When asked about his former co-star, Sadie Sink, Montgomery had good things to say. In his words:

"She's such a talented actress that's had some amazing opportunities over the last few years... I really, more than anything, just want her to see her continue to do so many cool performances outside of Stranger Things, because I just think that she's so talented, so professional, so driven—all those sorts of things."

After taking a five-year break from Hollywood to regain his privacy and reflect on his career goals, Dacre Montgomery is returning with the film Went Up The Hill. It will be released in theatres on August 15.
