Deion Sanders, often known as "Coach Prime", and his longtime partner Tracey Edmonds ended their 12-year-long relationship in late 2023. While the couple first issued a joint statement emphasizing mutual respect, a YouTube documentary and some rumors suggest there was more going on beneath the surface, including reports of romance between Sanders and actress Karrueche Tran.

Edmond says she ended the relationship between her and Deion Sanders

On December 3, 2023, Edmonds and Deion Sanders announced their breakup over Instagram. The post included a throwback photo from the 2018 NFL Honors ceremony, which read:

"To EVERYONE who has been there for us, supported us, and shown us love...We have mutually decided that it is best for us to move forward in life AS FRIENDS and have made this decision with love in our hearts, respect for each other, and appreciation for the time we've shared together."

They added:

"Please keep us in your prayers as we go through this transition. Thank you for being there for us ALL THESE YEARS! We love you and appreciate you SO MUCH!"

Coach Prime replied with a comment:

"Love u Tracey and You've been a true blessing to me. I appreciate the times we've shared and they laughs we've had," the University of Colorado football head coach said. "You are an amazing woman and a tremendous mother. God bless u with every endeavor and every step u take. You are HER. Tracey-Mack !!!"

However, just a few days later, on 10 December 2023, she announced that she had left the relationship because of her own choice. She wrote on Instagram:

"I want to clarify that it was my decision to end the relationship, despite any different narratives being presented."

She added:

"I've chosen to prioritize myself and my family, moving forward towards a future where I am valued, treated with honesty, and free to embrace the happiness and respect I deserve."

She concluded the announcement, saying that she had to respond as there were multiple false stories circulating.

"I hate to have to respond to the media, but sometimes it's necessary when the falsehoods get out of control!"

This change-up in statements shows that her breakup might not have been mutual as they had announced earlier.

Karraueche Tran rumors add fuel

While neither Deion Sanders nor Edmonds verified any third-party involvement, actress Karrueche Tran's name started to come up in connection with Deion Sanders, AKA Coach Prime. The rumors intensified when Tran was spotted emotionally supporting Sanders in For Your Glory, a YouTube documentary published by his son, Deion Jr., following Sanders' struggle against bladder cancer.

In the documentary, Tran was seen crying next to Sanders' bedside, which raised speculations. Tran said as she sobbed:

“We are at the hospital because we are dealing with… bladder cancer. He’s having his bladder removed and they will create a new bladder with one of his intestines. And this option was I guess the best because it fully removes the cancer. to ensure it won’t come back because it was close to his muscle.”

Both deny any relationship

Claudia Jordan, who is a close friend of Edmonds', stated in a startling episode of the Accidentally Informed podcast that Tracey confronted Tran about the dating rumors long before the public started speculating about things between the two. On the podcast show, she said:

“Tracey had heard the whispers. She saw Karrueche at the event and asked her straight out, ‘Are you dating Deion?’ And Karrueche just laughed and said no.”

Jordan then showed a photo of the same event where the two were standing next to each other, as well as smiling. Jordan wondered at how cordial they looked and said:

"They looked like friends. Like they were really cool with each other. That’s what makes this new development interesting.”

Similarly, Deion Sanders was interviewed for the Say What Needs To Be Said podcast in early August of 2025. When former NFL player Asante Samuel questioned him on Tran and her appearance in the documentary, towards the end of the podcast. Samuel had asked:

“Don’t kill the messenger. Everyone seen Karrueche Tran by your side during your hospital visit. Everyone want to know what that friendship is.”

Deion Sanders deflected the question by pretending the video call was cutting off as he stood up and moved away from the screen. He said:

“Hey, we got a bad connection.”

Deion Sanders and Karrueche Tran have not yet provided any response or denied the rumors. Coach Prime is now cancer-free and is ready to focus on the upcoming season.
