The Crash Landing on You star, Son Ye Jin, is facing backlash after her co-star Lee Byung-hun made a lighthearted remark about her during their upcoming film, No Other Choice's press event.
During the press event, Lee Byung-hun, best known for his role in the thriller series Squid Game, joked that he answered all the curious questions from their young co-star, a child actress, Choi So-yul, on the set, but Son Ye Jin didn't.
Although he said this jokingly, netizens on social media quickly took the joke out of context and criticized Son Ye Jin's behavior as dismissive, rude, and arrogant. To correct the narrative, the child actress's mother stepped forward and clarified that Lee Byung-hun’s comments were just meant as a joke.
More about Son Ye Jin facing backlash
At a press event for the upcoming film No Other Choice, Lee Byung-hun made a statement in which he jokingly said that while he answered all the curious questions of their co-star, the child actress Choi So-yul, Son Ye-jin “never answered a single one” and instead told him, “You handle it for me.”
During the press event, he said:
''The young actress playing my daughter asked me so many questions, and I would keep answering until suddenly the camera would roll and I was caught off guard. But Son Ye Jin never answered her once. So I asked her, ‘Can’t you answer her sometimes?’ and she said, ‘Sunbae, you handle it for me.’ Hearing her comments today, though, I realize she really was cherishing the moment in her own way.''
This statement of the actor became the reason behind Son Ye Jin facing backlash, as the internet interpreted it as an unkind gesture of Son Ye Jin towards the child actress. The mother of the child actress then took to social media to address the issue. As per All Kpop, on Sunday, August 24, 2025, she responded to fans, saying:
''It was also surprising for us. It was actually a fun, lighthearted anecdote he shared jokingly, but we also feel it’s a bit unfair how it’s been blown out of proportion. One day we’ll get the chance to share the full story. What’s true is that she was always very kind.''
During this discussion, the mother of the child actress also revealed that the Something in the Rain star gifted Choi So-yul a special gift, which was an Aurora Ping toy. She said that it was the best Christmas gift, and also added that someday she will let the fans know the story behind how she got the actress's number.
The black comedy film, No Other Choice, will be premiering at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on 29 August 2025.
