Wicked: For Good is a film in the musical fantasy genre. It premiered in São Paulo and was released theatrically on November 21, 2025, by Universal Pictures. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film serves as a sequel to 2024's Wicked. Here's the official synopsis as per IMDb:

Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. The second of a two-part feature film adaptation of the Broadway musical.

The film has done well at the box office, crossing the $65 million mark. Let's get into the details of this piece of news.

Wicked: For Good crosses $65 million mark at the ticket window

Wicked: For Good has minted around $70 million, $68.6 million to be precise, on its opening Friday. This includes collection from preview screenings at 4,115 locations across the continent. It's cemented the film as the second biggest opener of 2025. If the film maintains this pace, it could gross around $151 million at the box office in its first weekend.

Wicked: For Good had already minted $12.6 million before its release, through double features and early screenings for Amazon Prime Video members. Made on a $150 million production budget, the film is expected to break even and turn a profit easily.

It's written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, while David Stone and Marc Platt have produced it under the banner of Marc Platt Productions. The film's cast members include:

  • Ariana Grande as Galinda Upland aka Glinda
  • Bronwyn James as ShenShen
  • Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp
  • Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible
  • Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar
  • Bowen Yang as Pfannee
  • Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz
  • Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp
  • Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman
  • Colman Domingo as Brrr, the Cowardly Lion's voice
  • Sharon D. Clarke as Dulcibear's voice
  • Dee Bradley Baker as Chistery's voice

The film adapts the second half of Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz's namesake 2003 stage musical. The musical itself was inspired by a novel. The first film was a critical and commercial success.

In an interview with The Guardian, Jon M. Chu discussed the film. He said,

“Any timeless story feels timely because it’s about the human condition. When people become too powerful, what happens to the powerless? That cycle, unfortunately, challenges us every few generations, and maybe this is our moment. We’re the adults in the room now.”

He further added that Generative AI wasn't used in the film.

“Generative AI was not used on this movie. If you see the camera shake, if you see a dancer and they’re not quite on time, that’s because humans made this. The string that plays just a little bit off-tempo, the wrinkle in her nose, that’s because it’s human-made. The world is part of the message.”

Wicked: For Good is currently playing in theatres.
