Fede Álvarez's sci-fi horror thriller 'Alien: Romulus', released on August 16, 2024, takes place between Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). It centers on six adolescent space colonists who come into dangerous monsters while plundering an abandoned space station. Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, and Cailee Spaeny are the film's main actors.

Rain (Kaitlyn Maher) and Andy (Jared Leto) are two significant characters in the film. These two characters, who survived the first film, are slated to return in a hypothetical sequel.

A sequel appears likely but has yet to be announced. However, in a conversation with io9, Álvarez confirmed that work is underway on the sequel:

"We definitely want to do it. The studio wants to do it. I want to do it," he said.

Fede Álvarez recently confirmed that a sequel of 'Alien: Romulus' is in development. He explained both he and the story. He also shared that even the studio is eager to continue the story. However, he highlighted the need to find the correct narrative before moving forward. Álvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues have ideas for a sequel, but will not start until they discover a narrative worthy of the Alien title.

He also emphasized the significance of avoiding jumping into a sequel just because the original film was popular. Álvarez cautioned against making a sequel just to profit on the original film's popularity since such a strategy generally yields dismal results.

Álvarez made it clear that the sequel needs to be significant and honor the Alien heritage, even though fans are eager for more. They are now looking for a story that is worth everyone's attention, he said.

Meanwhile, one can watch Alien: Romulus on streaming services like Hulu. Álvarez personally backed the choice to release the movie in 4K and VHS. This is because he has a strong emotional attachment to the VHS format.

'Alien: Romulus' follows a group of survivors stuck on a remote, lonely planet after their ship crashes. As they try to find shelter and resources, they discover that the planet is home to a dangerous alien species. The survivors are forced to confront the mounting extraterrestrial menace while also dealing with their internal struggles and the psychological consequences of solitude.

The film combines extreme survival horror and the haunting atmosphere of the Alien trilogy. The cast includes Jared Leto as Andy, an important character, and Kaitlyn Maher as Rain, a survivor. Rain, an orphaned miner, is represented by Cailee Spaeny, while Andy, her robotic brother, is played by David Jonson. Isabela Merced plays Kay, who is pregnant, and Archie Renaux plays Tyler, Kay's brother.

Aileen Wu portrays their adoptive sister, Navarro, while Spike Fearn plays their cousin, Bjorn. While Trevor Newlin and Robert Bobroczkyi portray the xenomorph and its hybrid offspring, Daniel Betts voices Rook, the robotic cop.

The characters' chemistry and development under pressure provide complexity to the plot. The plot revolves around survival, trust, and the constant fear of an overwhelming alien entity. As the survivors face both the environment and the lurking creatures, the film explores themes of humanity's fragility, the drive to survive, and the unknowable fear that exists within the Alien universe.
