The idea of a Marvel x DC crossover has occupied the minds of superhero fans for decades. Picture this: Iron Man and Batman teaming up, or Spider-Man swinging through Gotham with Wonder Woman by his side. It’s the kind of epic showdown that makes fan hearts race and nerd debates ignite everywhere. But behind the glitz and glamor, the reality is a maze of studio rivalries, legal red tape, and creative clashes.

However, as the comics from both studios are finally teaming up for a crossover, fans have also taken to the hopes of there possibly being a potential Marvel x DC collab brewing somewhere. Marvel’s Kevin Feige and DC’s James Gunn have, in the past, dropped some truth bombs about whether this dream team-up could ever jump from fan fiction to the big screen. Spoiler alert: it’s complicated, messy, and unpredictable. Yet, despite all the hurdles, the buzz is electric because when these two worlds collide, it could rewrite superhero history forever. So, what did they say? Here's everything you need to know about the potential crossover.

Everything we know about a Marvel x DC crossover

President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, has previously talked about a potential crossover and that it's not an undiscussed idea between the two studios. In 2024, Feige told Collider,

"I think about it occasionally, like any fan would think about it. I don't know when in the heck that would ever happen, or how that would happen. But we've been talking too long for me to go, 'Never! We'd never be able to do that'"

He added that no plans for any Marvel x DC projects are being made as of yet, as both studios are invested in their own projects as of now.

"We'll never say never, but no, no plans. I've seen the paparazzi shots of the Superman set looking cool. So he's [James Gunn] focusing on that. We're focusing on this,"

However, James Gunn has taken an even more hopeful approach about a Marvel x DC collaboration, considering he has worked with both. Gunn helmed the Guardians of the Galaxy films and is now leading DC with their new era of Gods & Monsters, starting off strong with Superman. Speaking to Empire in 2023, the director said,

“I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC]. Who knows? That’s many years away, though. I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”

What does all of this mean for a collaboration between both studios

While there’s no official roadmap carved out just yet, the idea of a Marvel x DC crossover is no longer a far-fetched fantasy scribbled in the margins of comic books. The conversations are real, even if they're casual and laced with maybes, and the fact that two of the biggest creative minds in the game aren’t dismissing the possibility outright is reason enough to stay hopeful.

Kevin Feige's openness, paired with James Gunn’s dual loyalty and optimism, suggests that while we might not get Iron Man and Batman duking it out tomorrow, the seeds are quietly being planted. And with the new comic collaboration between Deadpool and Batman's crossover, it makes things even more plausible. If nothing else, it means that both studios recognize the massive potential that Marvel x DC holds. Not just commercially, but as a defining cultural moment. It’s a long game, but in the world of superheroes, nothing's impossible.
