Among the brand-new animated musical-action-comedy films that have fans buzzing with excitement is K-pop Demon Hunters, which was released on Netflix on June 20, 2025. It focuses on a powerhouse K‑pop girl group called Huntrix with three members: Rumi, Mira, and Zoey (the Maknae).
This K-pop group isn’t just about music. They’re also secret demon hunters. By day, they perform for fans, and by night, they fight to protect them, creating the magical Honmoon to keep evil away.
Their toughest fight begins when the Saja Boys, a demon boy band led by Jinu (voiced by Ahn Hyo-seop), start stealing souls. Amid epic battles and fun moments, a sweet bond grows between Rumi and Jinu, but his tragic death leaves fans heartbroken and wondering if a sequel is coming.
As of now, neither Netflix nor Sony Pictures Animation has confirmed a sequel to K-pop Demon Hunters. However, there are several signs that strongly suggest a follow-up can be made, with the return of the girl group.

Will there be a K-pop Demon Hunters 2 on Netflix?

Even though Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation haven't officially announced a sequel to K-pop Demon Hunters, the ending left room for more. More hints come from three major areas: how well the film performed, what the creators and actors have said, and how many parts of the story are still unfinished.
It's been less than a week since the film debuted, and the response has been outstanding. The movie has an impressive 96% critic rating and 90% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, one of the highest combined scores for any Netflix original film.
The film quickly rose to the top of Netflix’s charts, even breaking records for Netflix original movies. This kind of popularity usually encourages studios to greenlight sequels because they know fans want more, especially the return of Jinu.

What the creators and cast of K-pop Demon Hunters said about continuing the story

People behind K-pop Demon Hunters, both the directors and the voice actors, have made it clear that they're interested in doing more with this world and its characters. Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who directed the film, explained that there were many things they had to leave out of the first movie simply because of time.
During their interview with Shine on Media, the creators were asked about the possibility of a sequel. Appelhans said:
"You know, because we had to pack so much into 85 minutes, and it's a pretty big idea, and a lot of pieces, there's so many…"
The film is only 85 minutes long, and it mainly focuses on Rumi’s personal journey, accepting her flaws and finding her strength. Appelhans continued:
"Yeah, so many unanswered questions, in a good way, and so many avenues that could be their own story that feels like so many possibilities, so yeah."
The makers also had backstories for other characters, which didn’t make it into the final cut. These cut scenes could form the basis of a sequel. The cast or the voice actors of K-pop Demons were also there in the same interview, and mentioned that they’d love to return if there’s a second film.
In fact, Ji-young Yoo has already come up with an idea for a sequel and pitched it to the directors. They are all very keen on continuing the story as the film hasn't revealed much about Mira and Zoey.
The unfinished storylines could be addressed in a potential K-pop Demon Hunters 2

Another major reason fans believe a sequel is likely is that the movie didn’t wrap up everything. There are several loose ends and hidden mysteries that leave room for more stories.
One of the biggest unresolved storylines is about Rumi’s origins, especially her father, who is a demon. How did her mother, a demon hunter, fall in love with him? What happened to him? Is he alive? Could he return? Maybe as a villain or maybe even as an ally in a future fight?
These are questions a K-pop Demon Hunters sequel could explore. There’s also a chance to dig deeper into Celine’s past. She’s Rumi’s foster mom and was once a demon hunter, too. Not to forget that the Honmoon was supposed to turn golden, which would close the gate between the world and the demon world forever.
However, it turned blue instead. So does that mean the demons still have a way to the mortal world? This means Gwi-Ma (the villain) or other demons could still return. Additionally, fans are heartbroken after witnessing Jinu's sacrifice and are demanding a resurrection of the character through a sequel.
The directors also admitted they had more stories about how the girls became hunters and other magical lore, but those had to be cut. They’ve confirmed that these elements could be brought to life in a sequel.
