Filmmaker Kevin Smith has had a long association with the world of comics, as well as with the MCU.

In the upcoming month, he is in fact releasing a comic book named 'Archie Meets Jay and Silent Bob,' where the OG characters of Smith's View Askewniverse, Jay and Silent Bob, are coming into Archie's world. It will be released on 9th July 2025.

So when it comes to comics, it is inevitable that the big Marvel question is bound to arise. While speaking in a recent interview with Collider, when the helmer was asked about whether he is directing an MCU movie, this is what he says:

"Everyone's like, 'Do you want to make a Marvel movie?' F*cking never."

Let us find out what Kevin Smith talked about regarding the idea of him directing an MCU movie.

"That's what I'd be more interested in," Kevin Smith talks about his actual interest in relation to MCU movies

In a conversation with Collider, the interviewer asked if Kevin Smith was keen to rework any particular project that did not take place eventually. To which Smith responded by mentioning that back in 1997, he had penned a script for a Superman film.

That script was about to be turned into a film by From Dusk Till Dawn director Robert Rodriguez. However, eventually Rodriguez dropped the project and went on to direct the 1998 film The Faculty. So, Smith expressed a desire for this ambitious project to take place.

Eventually, in further conversations, Kevin Smith addressed a common question that people ask him about. And that is whether he will make a Marvel film. This is what Smith responds:

"Everyone's like, 'Do you want to make a Marvel movie?' F*cking never. What in my body of work has ever made anyone think, 'He'd be good for that sort of visual spectacle."'

He further mentioned that he is comfortable making films that are unique to his style, as he states:

"I'm put on this Earth to make Kevin Smith movies, if anything, and most critics will argue that I'm not even put on this earth to do that. But nobody wants to make Kevin Smith movies except me, so that's my lane, and I love staying in it."

But that does not mean that Kevin Smith is not keen to be associated with the MCU. The filmmaker adds by stating that even though he is not interested in helming an MCU movie, he is certainly interested in acting in those films, as he says:

"If [Marvel] was like, "We want you to play... anybody. One scene — a f*cking bad guy, a good guy." Oh my god [...] That's what I'd be more interested in. Because that would be fun, and none of the responsibility would be mine."

Interestingly, Kevin Smith acted in an MCU movie back in 2003, named Daredevil. In the film, he essayed the role of Jack Kirby. Along with Smith, stars Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Jon Favreau, and many others. In fact, the creator of Marvel Comics, the late iconic comic book writer Stan Lee, appeared as himself in Kevin Smith's 1995 film Mallrats.

There is also good news for the fans of Kevin Smith and the ones who are interested in experiencing his filmography. Smith's 1998 fantasy comedy film Dogma is back in theaters. It was released on 5th June 2025, only in Canada and the United States.
