The Four Horsemen are back for another heist in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. Isla Fisher, who was missing from the sequel, has also returned for this third movie as Henley Reeves. Joining her are the other three thieving magicians: Jesse Eisenberg as J. Daniel “Danny” Atlas, Dave Franco as Jack Wilder, and Woody Harrelson as Merritt McKinney. The first part showed them pulling off a difficult heist while the FBI was following them every step of the way.
Agent Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) was leading the FBI investigation and was eventually revealed to be the mastermind behind the four magicians' schemes. He became an inside man for these people and continued operating under the radar to achieve his goals. All that time, the FBI believed that Dylan was helping catch these thieves while he was using them to do something without getting noticed. That became the big revelation in the first movie.
However, despite having such a major role in the franchise, Mark Ruffalo is nowhere to be seen in the first trailer for Now You See Me: Now You Don't. It feels incomplete without his presence, and the fans of this fifth horseman must be eager to know where he is, what he is up to, and if he is not returning in the third part. Well, he is most likely returning, but it is not clear how big of a role he will have. Let's discuss further.
Will Mark Ruffalo have a role in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t? Answer explored
As mentioned before, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t will bring the original four horsemen together. So, Isla Fisher, who was missing from the second movie, is reprising her role this time. She appears in the trailer with the other three horsemen, but this time, they have something different planned altogether. Jesse Eisenberg's Danny is seen enrolling three young magicians, played by Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers), Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie), and Justice Smith (I Saw the TV Glow).
Eventually, they cross paths with Danny's old mates and get starstruck. They all join hands to pull off a bigger heist together against a highly influential character, played by Rosamund Pike (Saltburn). Morgan Freeman is also returning this time around as Thaddeus Bradley. However, despite almost every old cast member set to return, Mark Ruffalo is sorely missing from the trailer. Even the description under the trailer on Lionsgate Movies' YouTube channel does not mention him.
Yet, publications like Variety and Entertainment Weekly have mentioned that Mark Ruffalo is returning as Dylan Rhodes. So, despite being absent from the trailer, he will have a role in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, but possibly a shorter one. It is possible that with the addition of new cast members, the story might focus on the new bonds between magicians. So, Dylan might be a mastermind pulling the strings behind the scenes, who might not appear as much as he did in the previous entries.
Another possibility is that in a two-and-a-half-minute trailer, there is only so much you can reveal. If the trailer tells everything there is to know, there will be nothing to see in the movie. So, considering the reports from the aforementioned publications along with the final moments of Now You See Me 2 that showed Dylan receiving a bigger responsibility from The Eye, he will most likely have a role in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.
