Looks like the world might not be getting another round of deadpan chaos from Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr. in The Naked Gun—at least not anytime soon. After stepping into the gloriously clumsy shoes of Frank Drebin Jr. in the 2025 reboot of the film, Neeson proved he could trade his usual seriousness and intensity for laughter and slapstick. He actually stuck the landing. The movie pulled in solid box office numbers, earned a nod of approval from fans, and even had fans whispering about a brand-new era for the franchise. But here’s the twist: Neeson isn’t exactly racing back to the precinct.

In a recent interview with Newsweek, he hinted the role was always meant to be a one-and-done, leaving the sequel dreams teetering on a banana peel of their own. The success of the film, The Naked Gun, might mean anything but a confirmation for a reboot, but whether Neeson will return to bumble through another case is still the mystery no one’s solved.

Neeson's statement read,

"I think it's a one-off, yeah. And if it succeeds, good. I think the film's going to have a few giggles and a few laughs in it, and God, we all need that at the minute. I think it's probably a one-off. Not that the experience wasn't great, it was. It's terrific, working with Pamela, Danny Huston, all these terrific guys."

What is The Naked Gun (2025) about?

After thirty years of silence, the most accident-prone cop in movie history has passed the baton to the next generation. The Naked Gun crashes back onto screens as the fourth film in the legendary spoof series. This time, Liam Neeson trades his usual action-thriller gravitas for pratfalls, bad disguises, and unintentional property damage. The movie is directed by Akiva Schaffer and co-written with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. It serves as both a sequel to Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult (1994) and a chaotic love letter to the franchise’s absurd roots.

The plot of The Naked Gun revolves around Neeson’s Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., who is determined to keep Police Squad alive, but his over-the-top policing style gets him sidelined. That is, until a suspicious “suicide” leads him into a tangled mess involving eccentric billionaire Richard Cane (Danny Huston). There is also a stolen “P.L.O.T. Device” capable of turning humanity into bloodthirsty barbarians. Beth Davenport (Pamela Anderson), a crime novelist with questionable singing skills and a knack for trouble, is also part of the chaos.

From nightclub melees to a self-driving car gone rogue, Drebin’s investigation is one long chain of disasters. Highlights include an oddly romantic ski trip featuring a living snowman, losing his pants mid–New Year’s Eve MMA event, and fending off chaos with ricocheting gun magazines. The climax? An owl swoops in to save the day, delivering poetic justice and bird droppings in equal measure.

Produced by Paramount Pictures and Fuzzy Door Productions on a $42 million budget, the film features Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, and Kevin Durand. It also includes cameos from Priscilla Presley and “Weird Al” Yankovic. As of now, The Naked Gun has garnered $38.2 million at the box office.

The Naked Gun is now in theaters.
