Will there be a sequel to The Beekeeper? Details explored

Jason Statham's Adam, at the end of David Ayer's The Beekeeper, becomes a surfer dude and vanishes. We can't say where, but he will return for sure, for it was confirmed earlier this year, as per Deadline, that Timo Tjahjanto will direct the sequel.

Recently, a production update confirmed that Amazon MGM Studios will also distribute the sequel. There's no premise about the film so all we can do is ride that speculation train. Although the sequel comes as no surprise after it exploded at the box office.

While David Ayer is not in the director's chair, he knows that there's so much to explore about it. In one interview with Inverse, he said that,

"We cracked the door a little bit into the 'Beekeeper' world, and I would love to learn more about them. I’m extremely curious: Where do they come from? Who are they? How do they operate? What happened in the system? Did it break? Did the Beekeepers break? Do we have to fix the Beekeepers? Who fixes the Beekeepers when the Beekeepers need fixing? It’s just an amazing mythology. There’s so much room to explore."

Maybe Timo Tjahjanto can answer those questions. And The Beekeeper 2 isn't the only sequel he is directing. He also directed the John Wick-like film Nobody 2, which is scheduled to be released on August 15, 2025. Before this, his projects included action thrillers The Night Comes for Us (2018), The Shadow Strays (2024), and more.

Where might The Beekeeper's story go?

David Ayer has already given us a few avenues Timo can explore in the sequel, but that's on him whether he chooses to or not. The fact that the film ends up opening so many avenues that we can speculate a number of ways it can go forward.

The first of them would naturally be a reunion between him and Verona (Emmy Raver-Lampman), as she let him go while she had the chance to kill him. She likely knows that these 'Beekeepers' are important for the world.

Or Madam President Jessica Danforth (Jemma Redgrave) may have a task for him. In the film, we see how her son, Derek (Josh Hutcherson), was the reason (and an embarrassing one) she won the election. However, it was for his personal gain.

Speaking of that, we can also see some large threat, probably something nationwide, which requires some special skills, which is where Statham's Adam might come in handy. Additionally, while we may or may not see how these special operatives work as Ayer suggested, we can still see some new Beekeepers aiding Adam to neutralize a potential threat.

Another thing to consider is that he has lost probably the last person who cared for him, so it may follow how he is coping with this pain. This is likely to add Verona's part in the film significantly. If that's the case, maybe she will pull him into something FBI-esque that she needs help with.

As of this writing, no further details regarding the film have been announced.
