Will Smith could have ended up in Christopher Nolan's Inception, whose ending still left our heads spinning like Cobb's totem. While it isn't clear what role the King Richard (2021) actor was supposed to play, Smith recently explained that he was offered a role in the film but turned it down.

In his recent interview, he told the host of radio station Kiss Xtra that,

"I don’t think I’ve ever said it publicly but I am going to say it because we are opening up to one another. Chris Nolan brought me ‘Inception’ first and I didn’t get it. I’ve never said that out loud. Now that I think about it, it’s those movies that go into those alternate realities… they don’t pitch well. But I am hurt by those, too."

The film was nominated for eight Oscars and won four of them, including Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects. Apart from this, it was the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2010.

While Smith's career includes films of the sci-fi genre, he hasn't worked in films that deal with alternate realities like Inception.

He is best known among fans for the Bad Boys films, as Detective Mike Laurie alongside Martin Lawrence, who played his buddy cop Detective Lieutenant Marcus Miles Burnett of the Miami Police Department.

Other than Bad Boys, he has appeared in a number of science fiction movies. The most popular among them would undoubtedly be the Men in Black films. The first movie in the series still stands as the best of them to date. Its Rotten Tomatoes score is proof of that.

Some more science fiction movies where he acted include Independence Day (1996) and I, Robot (2004).

He has also landed a few superhero roles, including the titular role in Hancock (2008) and later in Suicide Squad (2016).

What is Inception about?

Christopher Nolan's Inception is one of the most, if not the most, twisted movies to have ever been produced. It mainly revolves around Leonardo DiCaprio's Cobb and the team he has assembled, which includes Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Ariadne (Elliot Page), Eames (Tom Hardy), and more.

The team is tasked with infiltrating the subconsciousness of a target where they must plant a seed of an idea. The target is Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy), rival to Japanese businessman Saito (Ken Watanabe). Saito has hired Cobb's team to manipulate Fischer's subconsciousness into having the idea to dissolve his company. This is what they call the "inception" of an idea.

Inception plays out differently than other sci-fi movies with its theme of manipulating the world of dreams. Apart from the story, which certainly needs a great deal of concentration to understand, the rich visuals add to its charm, especially with scenes like when Cobb shows Ariadne that she is in a dream by bending an entire piece of land.
