Weapons is probably one of the finest horror movies of recent times. It is the kind of movie that rattles in your mind after you've watched it, and makes you wonder what on earth you just watched. Directed by Zach Cregger, the 2025 horror takes a small town mystery and builds it into something much darker and sinister. It is more unsettling than you expect. It is not only about the scares (though, there are plenty of those), it is about the way the story plays with your sense of reality.
You can expect to feel both dread and curiosity as you watch this horror tale. And just when you think you’ve got the villain figured out, the plot turns and you realize you were miles away from the truth. The characters aren't shown as pure good and evil either. Everyone has their shadows, their secrets, and the longer you sit with them, the more you start to wonder if maybe that’s the real horror of it - of how ordinary people can hide their extraordinary darkness.
Then there’s the tone that's haunting in itself. Enough to make you sit at the edge of your seat. It is a movie that lingers in your head for a long time after it is over because it leaves you with so many questions. But that’s part of its bite. It is what makes Weapons feel less like a movie you watch once and forget, and more like a story that keeps circling in the back of your head.
Weapons: Is part 2 happening? Director Zach Cregger answers
In an interview with Variety, director Zach Cregger revealed that he would be interested in doing another story in the world of Weapons. He said:
"I have another idea for something in this world that I’m kind of excited about. I’m not going to do it next, and I probably won’t do it after my next movie, but I do have one and I’d like to see it on the screen one day."
This basically means there is a good chance we will get another story in the same universe. The idea that Zach Cregger has right now might not necessarily be the one that becomes Weapons 2. It could end up as 3, 4, or who knows, even a spin-off. However, the possibility of a direct sequel is definitely there, and the movie leaves enough breadcrumbs for it.
There are still plenty of questions the movie didn’t answer. For example, what really happened to Alex’s parents? Which “nicer aunt” is he living with now? What really happened to all the children after Gladys died? And if Gladys was a witch, does that mean she had a coven? And if she did, is the coven coming for the town next?
Basically, the door is wide open for more stories, more twists, and more nightmares. We might not get part 2 right away and may have to wait for Cregger to finish other projects. Given how much is left to explore, and how much he clearly loves this world, the odds are pretty good that we will pick our jaws off the floor in a Weapons sequel one day.
