With a B CinemaScore, Jurassic World: Rebirth trails behind most of the franchise’s hits

Jurassic World: Rebirth isn't the worst movie in the long-running franchise, but it also isn't the best. It was released on July 2 and received a mixed reception from critics, as it currently has a 53% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Most of the fans, on the other hand, liked it, as the Popcornmeter shows a 74% approval from the audience.

While we have a new story, the film also came up with something new for the franchise, a CinemaScore of B, the second lowest score in it. The third Jurassic Park film has the lowest score of B- on the movie polling platform.

Though it is the fourth film in the Jurassic World series, it is a standalone film that also broke an unlikely tradition that the two trilogies have continued, although not in a way we should expect. The first films in both series are the best in their respective series. However, Jurassic World: Rebirth has failed to meet that bar. That said, we can't say if the story will continue further, but a commercial success might give it a chance.

If you go by Rotten Tomatoes scores, the latest installment in the Jurassic Park franchise landed fourth. The score indicates that it isn't fresh, making it the fifth film to do so.

Only the original Jurassic Park and Jurassic World sit fresh with Rotten Tomatoes' scores of 91% and 72%, respectively. The other films, excluding the latest one, include The Lost World: Jurassic Park with 56%, Jurassic Park III with 49%, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom with 47%, and Jurassic World Dominion with 29%.

Are we seeing another billion-dollar movie in the franchise?

Out of six movies in the franchise, four of them have broken through that $1 billion club, and the first film was the first one to do it. Although it was thanks to its re-releases that it was possible. The second and third films in the original trilogy, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III, failed to attain that mark, making $618.6 million and $368.7 million, respectively.

On the other hand, all the Jurassic World films managed to enter the $1 billion club. The first film made the most with $1.6 billion, while Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World Dominion grossed $1.3 billion and $1 billion, respectively.

Jurassic World Rebirth is expected to do business of over $100 million on its 5-day opening weekend, according to media behemoths like The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline. That said, the film should reach a billion dollars in earnings with a strong opening like that. Jurassic World holds the best domestic opening for that matter, with $208.8 million earned on its opening weekend.
