Actor Rob Lowe recently expressed enthusiasm about travelling to space with Blue Origin.
During his appearance on an episode of the Hot Mics With Billy Bush podcast on July 28, 2025, the 61-year-old actor revealed that he is in talks with the company for a potential space trip. He said:
“Wouldn’t it be sick?”
He further clarified that he has not been offered a seat on any rocket yet, but he would “probably” go if the opportunity arises in the future. He added that his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, was not impressed by the idea. The two have been married since 1991. Explaining why he opted for it, he said:
“The minute we're reminded that we are all just citizens of the earth is the minute that we begin to recognize our similarities and our shared humanity.”
He said that he wants to experience the ‘overview effect’ which is a “cognitive shift in the perspective reported by some astronauts after they viewed Earth from space.”
Blue Origin recently launched an all-female crewed space mission, including Katy Perry and Lauren Sanchez from the U.S. Here is what we know.
All about Blue Origin’s NS-31 flight into space
Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin launched Katy Perry and five more women to space on April 14, 2025, through its flight, NS-31. The all-female flight included Bezos' wife Lauren Sanchez, CBS host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, scientist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn, as per a report in Reuters.
It was the first time a U.S. space mission sent a full-female crew since the era of Valentina Tereshkova in 1963. While the flight was celebrated for its historic achievement, some critics called the 11-minute trip frivolous and wasteful in the face of pressing global challenges like climate change, poverty, and social inequality.
Perry took to her Instagram to respond to her haters after she went on Blue Origin’s space mission in April. She wrote in her post,
“When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed.”
She admitted that she is not “perfect” and has “omitted that word from my vocabulary.” She concluded her post by saying,
“I’m on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but… I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS.”
According to Blue Origin’s official website, it recently completed its 13th human spaceflight and the 33rd flight for the New Shepard Program. The crew consisted of Allie Kuehner and her husband, Carl Kuehner, Leland Larson, Freddie Rescigno, Jr., Owolabi Salis, and Jim Sitkin.
The company stated on its website that the potential passengers are required to pay $150,000 in the form of a refundable deposit to start the "order process."
