You can’t deny that Ed Warren scared Tony Spera more than the demons in The Conjuring: Last Rites

The Conjuring: Last Rites is different from the past three films in the franchise.

It's less scary and more family-focused. Yes, there are demons. In fact, there is one who returns from the first film, and there's that infamous evil toy Bathsheba plays with, Annabelle. But it isn't as frightening as the previous installments.

Although demons weren't scary in it, Ed Warren (Patrick Wilson) was. At least to one person, Judy's (Mia Tomlinson) boyfriend, Tony Spera (Ben Hardy). However, after the horrors Tony faced in The Conjuring: Last Rites (instilled by Ed and not the demons), he is finally accepted by the Warren family.

It sure was one hell of a ride for him. Though if we take Den of Thieves and Bad Boys 2 into account and put The Conjuring: Last Rites side by side, we will see that movie dads rarely like their daughters dating, so Spera was rightfully scared.

The latest movie sees Judy as the new protagonist of the film, though her parents are still at the core of the franchise. It is they who eventually have to take matters into their own hands. But things get worse for them this time as the demon in the film possesses their child.

During the final moments of the movie, we see the demon trying to lead Judy on a deadly path. She even tries to kill herself while possessed, but thanks to Tony, who cuts the rope and saves her just in time.

After that, it is Ed and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) who need to remove this mirror that's the root of all the evil in the film. The family then eventually deals with it and closes The Conjuring chapter for good.

Did Judy and Tony end up together?

As they say, if there's no happy ending, it's not really the end. Taking that into account, we can safely say that it was a happy ending for The Conjuring: Last Rites. Judy and Tony eventually end up together. We even get to see their wedding at the end of the film. Ed finally sees that there's someone to protect his daughter. Add the fact that Tony is a former police officer, and it is more than reassuring for Ed.

We all know that the franchise picked the stories from real-life cases Ed and Lorraine Warren were involved with. Tony was a part of their real-life story, too. In fact, he also helped them in many paranormal cases.

In one personal essay, called When Judy Met Tony, the real-life Tony gave us a glimpse of how their relationship developed. We won't dive deep into it, but it sure was love at first sight for him.
