Your Holiday horror watchlist: Every Frankenstein classic to stream this Christmas

Frankenstein is a character who has been a part of our popular culture. It originated from the namesake Gothic novel by Mary Shelley that was published in 1818. It's about the namesake scientist who creates a creature from different body parts.

Several films have been made about this character. On this Christmas, we have curated a horror watchlist for you to enjoy with your family and loved ones. This list features all the titles under one belt that have been released so far. It includes ones from yesteryear to the recently released Guillermo del Toro's rendition.


Every Frankenstein title to stream this Christmas

1) Frankenstein (1910) - This short film is directed by Searle Dawley, and it has a runtime of around 12 minutes. It was considered a lost film for many years until its preserved copies were found in the 1970s. The film can finally be viewed for free on YouTube.

2) 1931 title - It is adapted from a theatre play, which itself was inspired by Mary Shelley's novel. The film stars Boris Karloff as the monster, and it became a critical and commercial success. The film is available on Prime Video through a subscription.

3) Bride of Frankenstein (1935) - It serves as a sequel to the 1931 film and follows right after the events of the first one. The plot is taken from Shelley's 1818 novel The Modern Prometheus. It was a critical and commercial success and was included in the Congress Library for preservation. It can be viewed on HBO Max.

4) Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)

This one combines elements of horror and comedy genres. The film features Dracula partnering with a person to resurrect the monster's mother. Bela Lugosi plays Count Dracula in this film, and it's often considered by many as an underrated title. It can be watched on Prime Video.

5) The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)

This one's a British film produced by Hammer Films and made under Terence Fisher's direction. The film's success led to multiple sequels labelled as Hammer Horror. The follow-ups were also successful commercial ventures. It can be rented on Apple TV and YouTube.

6) Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (1969)

This one's a British horror film that is the fifth in the overall Hammer universe. It was directed by Terence Fisher while Bert Batt wrote the screenplay. The film can be rented on Prime Video and Apple TV.

This was followed by a comedy horror film by Mel Brooks, which parodied all the earlier adaptations of Shelley's novel.

7) Frankenstein (2025)

This one's a directorial work of Guillermo del Toro, who's been wanting to adapt the novel for a while. It premiered at the film festival in Venice and stars actors such as Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi, among many. The film features many big VFX-heavy shots that were not there in the previous installments.
