You'll never see Carly with curly hair on your General Hospital screens — and with good reason. While Laura Wright has a head full of gorgeous natural curls, Carly likes to keep her locks straight on screen.

A soap opera history of curls

When Wright first landed the role of Ally Rescott on ABC's Loving in 1991, her curls were on full display. She also wore her hair "big" as the 1980s "big hair" transcended into the early 1990s. Wright took her curly hair to The City when Loving morphed into a brand-new, short-lived soap in 1995.

By the time she became Cassie Layne on Guiding Light in 1997, Wright was a bona fide soap star who took her talent and curls with her to CBS. However, when Wright chose to jump ship from Springfield to GH's Port Charles in 2005, the curls took a holiday. While Wright wore her natural hair a few times during her early days as Carly, her locks have been blown straight on a regular basis for the last 20 years.

On the July 13th episode of State of Mind With Maurice Benard, Wright told her to set the record straight on why she never goes au natural on General Hospital after a fan asked if she wore a wig.

"We're gonna settle this right now," Wright said. "This is Laura's hair, and it's a lot today," she said as she ran her hands through a mane of messy curls."

She explained that it was hot in Los Angeles that day, which made it even harder to manage her hair. "This is why I cannot do this on the show. First of all, he would start laughing every time I walked on the set," Wright said, pointing to Benard, who laughed right on cue.

Benard noted that Wright had great hair before she continued telling fans why Carly nixes the curls.

"It looks different every day," the actress explained. "We sometimes shoot three or four shows a day and then do a pickup the next week. We shoot out of order so much. It's gotta be straight. Can you imagine trying to match this? So, no one makes me wear it straight. It makes no sense to do this," she said while touching her curls.

"It's too much and I can't match it cause tomorrow it could look totally different," Wright concluded.

When Benard said that the show won't allow him to go gray despite him wanting to, Wright assured that was one thing she didn't want. So, blonde straight locks it is when Wright enters Carly's World.
