Did General Hospital give up on Jason and Sasha?

There was a time not too long ago when General Hospital fans were sure that Jason and Sasha would end up a couple. Fans were not happy about the idea for a variety of reasons, so is it possible the soap actually got the hint?

Perhaps on paper, it seemed like a perfect setup. Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and Jason (Steve Burton) were living in the same house, established a friendship, and Jason learned Sasha was pregnant with Michael's child, but she didn't want anyone to know.

While Jason didn't volunteer to pose as the dad as he did years ago when Sam (Kelly Monaco) was pregnant with Sonny's (Maurice Benard) baby, Cody (Josh Kelly) jumped to the conclusion that he was, and word got around town. The next logical step would be for Jason and Sasha to go on pretending, which they did. It also seemed that romance would follow. Except, it didn't.

Rather than placing them on the front burner so a romance could develop, we barely even see Sasha and Jason in scenes anymore. GH made a big deal of Sasha planting a kiss on Jason at the PCPD to make the baby daddy story seem authentic, but we have hardly had a close moment between them since.

Instead, we almost never see Sasha at all, and Jason seems more concerned about everyone else's business than his fake new child.

General Hospital has a habit of forging ahead with couples despite any initial negative reaction. Cases in point can be Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) and Peter August (Wes Ramsey), and Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton). Fans hated these pairs from the start, but GH pushed them on the audience for years until the show finally gave up.

With Sasha and Jason, it feels ike GH got the hint early on and dared to be different by changing course. Sasha's real baby daddy is currently recovering in a burn clinic after a devastating fire in Sonny's penthouse. We know he will return home eventually. That's when the real drama can begin, as a Sasha-Michael-Willow triangle makes much more sense than Jason falling for the woman carrying his nephew's child.
