Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) is arguably one of the most iconic characters in the history of General Hospital as the brain-damaged hitman who acts as Port Charles' resident lifesaver whenever someone is in danger. As the son of Alan and Monica Quartermaine (Stuart Damon and Leslie Charleson), he's a legacy character. He's the right-hand man of mobster Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and the best friend of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright). Although Jason "Stone Cold" Morgan isn't known for showing a lot of emotion, he's been involved in more emotional storylines over the years than we can count. Here are just four of those moments:

General Hospital's Jason says goodbye to Sam (2024)

Even though Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) was engaged to Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) when she died, she and Jason were a super couple for over a decade before that. They got married in 2011 and had a son whom Sam named Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) after her adoptive brother Danny (then-David Greenman), who died in 2006.

Jasam fans were disappointed that Jason and Sam didn't end up together, but the scene when he visited her body in the hospital and said goodbye was a beautiful tribute to their relationship. Through flashbacks, he reminisced about some of the special times they shared. "I remember it all," he said before he left her with a parting kiss on her forehead. "I will never forget. I promise." As he left the room, he broke into tears as he realized that her death meant he was saying goodbye not only to her but also to a monumental chapter in his life.

Jason consoles Scout after her mother Sam dies (2024)

Even though Jason's long been known as a deadbeat dad, because he devoted his adult life to Sonny's mob business, he has a special way of interacting with kids that we don't get to see very often. We witness it in this scene after Sam died. Sam's grieving young daughter, Scout (Cosette Abinante) — who is Jason's niece and the daughter of his twin brother, Drew (Cameron Mathison) — asked Jason why she couldn't visit her mother in the hospital. Jason explained that even though Sam's body was there, "her laugh, her smile, her hugs, and everything that made her so special and made her your mom are in Heaven and in our hearts." He added, "Just because somebody goes to Heaven doesn't mean their love stops. Your mom's love will be with you forever."

Jason and Danny remember Sam at Christmas (2024)

It's always a special treat when we see Jason share scenes with Danny. Fans love watching them bond as father and son, and this scene was no exception. Danny misses his mom, Sam, and in this scene that takes place during the Christmas season following her death, he shares fond memories of her with Jason. Jason consoles him by saying, "When you lose people, they're never really gone. They just become a part of us." Danny points to a bright star in the night sky and says, "I think that star is Mom, watching over us." Jason and Danny wish Sam a merry Christmas.

Jason chooses Monica over Sonny (2025)

After Michael suffered severe burns from the explosion in Sonny's apartment in January of 2025, Tracy (Jane Elliot) kept Michael's (then-Chad Duell) and Willow's (Katelyn MacMullen) children, Wiley and Amelia, at the Quartermaine mansion. Tracy considered Willow unfit to care for them due to her affair with Drew. Willow used her power of attorney as Michael's wife to prevent Sonny and Carly from visiting him in the hospital unless they could talk Tracy into giving Willow her kids back.

Carly and Sonny both tried to convince Tracy but to no avail. When Jason and Sonny confronted her together, Tracy told Jason how much Monica needed her great-grandchildren living in her home with her. She reasoned that since Michael was struggling with third-degree burns in the hospital, Wiley (Viron Weaver) and Amelia (Sequoia and Serenity Mork Macko) were Monica's only remaining connection to her son, AJ (then-Sean Kanan). Jason relented and chose Monica's needs over Sonny's. Fans were thrilled that for the first time, he chose his Quartermaine family over Sonny. Jason has always had a special relationship with Monica, and he knew it would break her heart if Sonny took Wiley and Amelia away from her.

Steve Burton always does a beautiful job conveying emotion through the tears that well up in his blue eyes during these heartwrenching scenes.
