Former General Hospital star John Stamos has always had musical talent, which he showed plenty of during his time on General Hospital as the troubled drummer and songwriter Blackie Parrish.
Stamos displayed another set of singing talents this summer, when he was tapped in to help perform the musical Jesus Christ Superstar as a last-minute replacement.
General Hospital alum John Stamos is a big music star, too
Stamos took over for Josh Gad as King Herod in a live performance of the hit musical at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in early August. Gad had to sit out due to a COVID diagnosis, and Stamos was brought in to take his place. The switch made headlines at the time because of the big names involved with the production, including Cynthia Erivo as Jesus and Adam Lambert as Judas.

Jesus Christ Superstar was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. It began as a concept album in 1970, before debuting on Broadway the following year. It has been adapted to movie form and TV specials several times.
Stamos stepped up despite the fact he had just landed in Los Angeles from Spain after touring with The Beach Boys. Stamos had 24 hours to prepare for the show.
Stamos revisited this experience Oct. 1st on his Instagram account. He shared a video showing behind-the-scenes clips of him getting ready for the show. Included were scenes of him rehearsing with his co-stars, performing with Erivo, and getting the lay of the land in the Hollywood Bowl theater itself.
He started his caption on the post by saying that Webber himself was in the front row, which added to the pressure. But he enjoyed it, saying “It turned into a brilliant night of performances, led by the incomparable Cynthia Erivo. Grateful for the whirlwind, the music, (thank you singing God, Eric Vetro, and the chance to rise to the occasion. Thank you to the entire cast and crew for the warm welcome and an unforgettable night.”
Numerous fans complimented him on the job he did. The Instagram user caitlinskybound said “While jet lagged from Spain after a week on tour with The Beach Boys! What an amazing whirlwind! You truly are a king!” Angie Swan, who had a role in the musical, commented “This was so much fun! Was never on my bingo card to be on stage with you. Thank you so much for stepping in! Excellent job.”
Stamos continues to be busy creatively. He has been a regular part of the group The Beach Boys, and is back with them this weekend, performing several shows in Las Vegas.
