I was such a newbie, and he was truly a LEGEND…In that moment, I was reminded of just how much of an icon he was on the show, with everyone swarming around him. But on set, in our scenes, working together day to day, he treated me—and everyone—as part of a team. We were all artists trying to create something together. Even on my very first day, I was thrown straight into a scene with Geary and Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine), and he treated me as an equal immediately.”Watkins continued with how Geary mentored him during their time on General Hospital together. He offered encouragement without oversharing or preaching. He simply said, ‘You’re good.’ It meant the world to me. Another time, during an intense scene where we were nearly physically fighting, he suggested I push against his chest as we started the take to build the energy the scene required. I loved working with him. After decades of playing Luke, he still loved it and gave it his all—even with a kid like me.“Here’s to you, Geary. What an adventure you lived. I’m so grateful I got to work with you.”Watkins had some key moments in the farewell episode as Dillon met Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) in The Floating Rib bar. They introduced themselves and became fast friends as they talked about moviemaking. They discussed Lulu (then played by Emme Rylan) and also Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin), who was Morgan’s girlfriend at the time but would eventually become Dillon’s.Dillon later had a conversation with Valerie Spencer (Brytni Sarpy) which came in the wake of her kissing Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), which threatened his marriage to Lulu on General Hospital.Numerous fans loved Watkins’ tribute. The Instagram user creativefan15 said, “I watched GH today and miss seeing you as Dillon. The Dillon/Lulu stuff was fabulous was when you were on the show. Geary was definitely a legend and glad you got that picture. The user courtneywendel added, “Great show today. Enjoyed seeing Luke and all the old cast members on GH.”The fan kathycolemancox said, “Thank you Robert for sharing such great memories of Tony. It's great to hear how good he was to young actors like you when you were new in GH. It seems Tony taught so many of the GH cast things they will carry with them. He was a good many and we can see that by what his friends and GH family say about him. Another fan who misses Geary, grauercynthia added, “I love the pic and your story. I loved seeing you today and I realized how much I miss seeing you almost every day on GH. It was sad to lose Tony and all the other greats lately. Thank you for sharing.”Catch all-new episodes of General Hospital weekdays on ABC and Hulu.
